TNPERWOOD Mrs. Harding Represented At Social Functions by | Generous Flower Gifts Unable to be Prcsent. M;stress Of \thte Hc;use ,Sends Fragrant Messengers to Congressional Club Breakfast and Other Official Receptions. SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. ERHAPS never before has a first lady of the land made hers more generally gracious than has Mrs. Harding, and trul sweet spirit pervaded the walks of official society all through the first part of the we Monday was flower day for her, and the splendidly arranged breakiast of the Congressional Club, d at Rauschers’, boasted a generous offering of blooms to place before the guests of hgnor and a note of regret that she could not be present, was read. At Congress Hali, where nearly fifty congressional hostesses re- ceived, there was again a generous offering of flowers to grace the tea table, and Representative Alice Robertson of Oklagoma, who held her fitst and last at home of the seas proudly called the attention of her tors to the huge bowl of blooms on her tea table, the gift of Mrs Harding. Pink roses and pink carnations were the flowers, and they made a happy link between the White House and women oi official society RS. HARDING has never for a moment lost her interest in the social affairs of the women of the Senate and House, and now that she is v convalescent to go quietly about the White House, and even | ik out on the south front balcony, she frequently gets closely in touch with official life by having a few women at a time drop in to see her. Ii no unforeseen official complications arise, the President and Mrs. Hard- ing will leave for points in rida just after Congress adjourns, and no one will begrudge them a happy trip. At Palm Beach and Miami, two points they are sure to touch, the women visitors spend almost every waking hour in the open, and at both places knitting is still the fad, and | s of women spend the morning on the sand plying their needles| isk'y the while. | | | ASHINGTON society, or the greater part of it, passed a very gay first week of Le Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday being especially marked by large and important events.
