OPPORTUNITIES FUND FALLS SHORT $1,800 Associated Charities Hopes Bal- ance Will Be Made Up Dur- ing Year. A final report on the success of the Associated Charities Christmas op- Portunitles was made to the board of managers at their monthly meet- ing yesterday afternoon, showing cash receipts in hand of $10,205.80, with pledges of $1.060, or a total of $11,265.80. The hope was expressed that the balance still needed of a little under $1,800 would be obtained during the current year, during which the fourteen families listed in the opportunities are to be kept to- gether. Other Christmas activitles of the society were noted in reports re- ceived from the District workers, in- cluding cash disbursements of $582, families remembered with toys, 144, and baskets, eighty-mine. The board voted to request a hear- ing before the Senate subcommittee on appropriations for the District of Columbia to ask a repeal of the item in last year's District appropriation bill, which would locate the proposed home and training school for the feeble-minded at Blue Plains.
