In point of fact, @ may bo truthfully said that it is without ap equal in this respect any where in the world There averments are borne out by the figures given below, which arc compiled from the sworn weekly statements printed in the paper nu each Monday in the year, and condonsed from the sworn tabular statements showing the average daily circulation of the paper during the year 1839, published in Taz Sram on the 18th of January, 1890. Briefly stated, the pointe upon which the ebove claim is based are these: That— 1. The Star has three times the circu- Jation of any other paper in Washing= ton! 2, The Stars circalation in Washing- tou is double that of all the ether dally papers published in the city added te gether!! 3. ihe Star bas a larger and fuller circulation in the city where printed, im proportion to reading and purchase ing population, than any other news Paper im the world!!! 4 The Sinr has the Jargest regular and permanent home circulation ot {ny two-cent afternoon paper im the United States !i!t In support of these claims and to show the constantly increasing circulation of the papex, Sttention is invited to the figures following: PALLY CIRCULATION TW 1885-86-87-68-8R 1SS3. 1886. 1887, INNS, 1899, JAN...20,486 23,388 235,470 26,346 27,542 FEv...22,029 24,321 26,299 27,161 29,200 MAR...25,549 25,504 25,009 27,490 34,760 Ara...22,572 24,727 25,573 27,166 20,552 MAY. .22,474 24,359 25,742 26,722 29,010 SUNE..21,933 23,902 25,116 27,453 20,173 SULY..21,406 23,18G24,870 26,363 29,650 A0G.. 21,445 22,364 24.559 25,521 25,593 SEFT..21,033 22,302 24,905 25,224 28,478 Oct...21,497 21,701 24,807 25,946 30,329 Nov...22,049 23,651 25,697 2.814 31,053 DEC...23,000 24,657 26,466 26,752 31,653 Av'ge.22,123 23,682 23,484 27,082 30,090 Incroase....... 1,559 1,803 1,598 3,099 Of this remarkable average aggregate of 80,090 copies circulated daily, no more than 1,102 copies are sent out of the city by mail, ‘and 1,106 go to suburban places, by express, railway traias, etc., leaving as a net circulation am the city proper the PHENOMENAL PRO- PORTION of 923, PER CENT, or AN AGGRE- GATE of 27,852 copies! Of this number, 21,142 were delivered daily by regular carriers at the homes of permanent sub- ecribers. The remaining 6,740 copies represent the sales over the office counter, at the nows stands, cut by newsboys. But of this latter number a very large proportion is supplied regularly to per manent residents of the city living in lodgings, &c. (not householders), so that its whole circula tion may be literally said to be in the family circle. While its aggregate circulation there fore gives Tax Sran a distinctive and enviable position in modern journalism, the fullness of its home circulation, the extent to which it is relied upon by members of the household, and particularly by the pure chasing portion of the community, are the marked characteristics of the paper, te which no other daily journal now published can furnish a parallel. ‘This is no idle boast on the part of the paper. Tt is a well established fact, demonstrated to the full satisfaction of the sagacious aud enters prising business men of Washington, who seek and know where to find THE LARGEST RETULNS FROM THE MONEY PAID OUT FOR ADVERTISING. This is proveh by the growth of Tax Stan's advertising patronage. Nothing can more surely illustrate the esteem in which «ny article is beld by the public than a constantly increasing demand for it—day by day, week by week, month by month, snd year by year,—in the face of ad verse claims and pretentiouscompetition. The figures following tell the story on this point: SUMBER OF NEW ADVERTISEMENTS sRINTED Bt 1885-36-87-88-89, 1886. 1SS7. IS8S, 1589. 3,200 3,615 4,076 4,558 3,064 3.547 3,924 4,509 3.506 4,669 5,498 4,355 5,478 3.558 4,197 5,395 5.171 6,033 3,925 4,522 4,006 5,528 3,235 3,3SL 3,915 4,459 2.582 3,170 3.508 4,606 4,208 4,517 4,904 5,SSD 4,599 5,313 5,412 6.589 But it is not alone in numbers that the great increase of advertising is shown. The larger space required for advertisements during the Year 1889 as compared with that eccupied im 1888 is even more striking. : ‘The average daily space filled by advertise ments in 1888 was 25.10 columns, or 7779 columns for the year; whercas for the year 1889 the daily average was 29.75 columns, or 9223 columns is the aggrcgste, being « total gain over the pre vious yearof1444columns! And this, it mast in the way of tax sales, poll lists, eiection returns, etc., such as occasionally swell the business of political organs, being inclnded in ite patroe age. In conclusion, it is only necessary to say that, fm proportion to the extent and high character Of its circulation, Tux Stan's advertising rates take rank with the very lowest in the country, and to add, finally, that every statement hereis made can be abundantly verified THE CIB CULATION OF THE PAPER I5 SWORN TO, ITS PRESS AND CIRCULATION BOOMS ARB OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, AND ITS BOOKS MAY BE INSPECTED BY ANY ONE HAVING (Q8 DITEREST IN THELB LXAMINATION,
