Masosic Reraesument.—The Masons here are resuming the customs of ‘lang syne” and now enjoy quite often the calls from labor to refreshment. As early as 1789 Alexandria- Washington Lodge made arrangements for a “private fund” and a caterer, but under the rule restricted the caterer to the purchase of the following articl “Good spirits, loaf sugar, best cheese, superfine crackers or da and dried venison, mutton or bacon ham: the caterer for «ny failure im quantity and = lity was required to Ray, three shillings into private fund. The lodge possessed a cut glass service of great value, consisting of 2,500 pieces, made especially for the lodge, bearing its name and emblems and ample for the largest eutertainments. These examples of the ‘feast of reason and flow of soul” have been discon- tinued with annual exceptions on St. John's day, &c., sce 1855. It is thought that the present Masonic tendency of Alexandria is to- ward a renewal of them. A Misistex Restoxen.—Very general regret is expressed hero at the resignation by Rev. W. J. Young of the pastorate of the Methodist Episcopal Church South here. He has been oeete to fill the chair of history and one of the chairs of theology in Randolph Mason Col- lege. The by aoe of his successor will be made by the Kev. Bishop Hendricks, the bishop in charge of the Baltimore conference of the southern church, who will preside at the next session of that conference. The meetirg house of that denomina- tion here was offervd for sale at auction at the market Louse at noon today. The Friends’ meeting house, a large brick building with lot 196 by 125 feet, was bought for €2,650 by Mr. & G. Brant. A Keowrnxy oy Bratats.—A movement will be made here shortly toward the enactment of a law to secure in this city « reg: ‘tion of inter- ments similar to that which has been in in Washingtou fora long time. The Bethel ceme- tery and a few others keep a record of their in- terments, but no permit is required by publie Guthority and most interments are made here without registration. A recently elected farmers’ candidate for Congress has been in town for two or three days past looking over his field of fature great- ness. He is stopping st an uptown botel, where style is not neglected and where gas is used for illuminating purposes, The first night Mr. —— spent at the hotel, the watchman noticed the gas burning long past midnight and so long past, that he finally rattled at the door, “Hello there,” he yelled two or three times and then turned the knob and the door came Open. “Here you,” he said, shaking the sleeper until he awoke, “What's the matter?” he inquired, rubbing his eyes. “What you got this gas burning for?” asked the watchman in no very pleasant voice. “Danged if I know why," was the guileless answer; “but the sign there said ‘Don't blow oat the gas,’ and I didn’t ‘low to do anything agin the rules if it never got putout, That's what I left the door open for, 20's you could come in and do it yourself, whenever you was ready.” ——+o+—__ AMUSEMENTS ALpavon’s.—‘‘Money Mad” was the attraction at Albaugh’slast night. Very pretty and cute is the love scene between Mr. Mitchell and Miss Dawes, and Mr. Mitchell’s work through- out was good. Bird's Aunt Phillis was a fine bit of color work, always difficult for a woman. Ben Hendricks’ German comedy was excellent, and Miss Toncray was a pretty om Manning. The acen- ery is ‘ial feature and the conutarteltors? en would be striking if it were not outclassed by the great Chicago river e with its turning bridge, moving steam- bdbis and other realistic effects, There were several first-night hitches and doors hard to find, and Prof. Bernays tried to lead his orches- tra against the phalanxes of the gallery be- tween the fourth and fifth acts but the gods were against it, and after repeated repulses the orchestra withdrew to the tre’ up the battle. ‘The orchestra the music was as good as anybody's music but the gallery wanted to have fun with Mr. Ber- nays and it succeeded and everybody enjoyed it even the orchestra. ‘Money Mad” isa fine show for an audience not too critical, and it is dramatic enough to start the enthusiasm in the veins of a coal bank. Again tonight. Exo.isn Opema AT THE NationaL. — The Emma Juch English Opera Com; any at the National last night, presented Myerbeer’s grand opera ‘‘The Huguenots” to an audience of very generous proportions and in a manner that was generally satisfactory. The orchestra under the skillful teadership of Adoloh Nueundorff played with excellent precision. The piece was well staged, Kennay's.—A vaudeville entertainment with- out a bad feature isa rarity, and a variety show with every performer a star is scarcer still, yet Pat Reilly has combined these two heretofore unattainables in the company now filling a week's engagement at Kernan’s, and last night saw the largest house this theater has accom- modated this season. The Dolans, known as the “Shaugrauns of the Vaudeville,” 0} the performance with a side-splitting sketch, Then came the original Pappilon dancers, as aceful as they were pretty. They made the Eifor the show, Barber, the expert bicyclist, was wonderfal, O'Brian and Redding were im- mense in a musical comedy. The two sisters Batchellor, Miss Minnie Watson and Miss Emily Pritchard as the Alhambra four, made a charm- ing quartet. Prince Kokino is a juggler all over. Miss Marie Loftus was a success, and Leoni Clarke with a troupe of trained cats, rats, mice and birds, all performing together, was a genuine novelty. The performance closed with an amusing comedy entitled ““Mystic Order of Undertakers,” in which Pat Reilly appeared as Ignatius Conoherty, He was ludicrous in theextreme. Again tonight. Hanus’ Bisov.—The Nelson's vaudeville company, headed by the famous gymnasts, the Nelson family, opened week's engagement at the Bijou last ‘night under most auspicious ci: cumstances. The house was crowded to the doors, and a was all that could be desired. Lottie Mack sang some catchy songs and received a double encore. La Belle Adele did some dificult gyrations upon a revolving globe. The Bland sisters in character songs and dances were good, and the Irish character vocalista, Bobby and Kity Emmets, proved prime favorites, The five Casuanis created much merriment by their quick evolu- tions and tudicious yea and Al Wilson was very funny in his German specialties, “Troublesome Tenants” is the roaring after- piece that closes the show.
