Some bridge players have found; — sgLUTION OF PREVIOUS psychic overcalls very effective in CONTRACT PROBLEM suits in which they fear opponents | can reach a game or slam. These, overcalls do work sometimes, andj when they do they leave a glow of| satisfaction that causes the maker to forget the five or six times that he has gone for a ride under exactly | the same circumstances. Wood, Jr., of Indian- apolis, members of the 1935 match, point team of four champions, had only their own cards to guide them. | ‘The bidding of East and West was five diamond response was equally artificial, showing one ace, but not on his own ricks in diamonds, and thought that the double might protect a trump honor in his partner's hand. It did not work out that way and South made his redoubled contract for a total of 1970 points. In a light-hearted interview with, however, serious undertones, Miss Faye expressed her concern for her financial future. To quote her words, “I think most of the young players in pictures to- will save many heartaches in the fu- ture.” In the same breath with her as- surance that she has insured her fi- nancial independence, Miss Faye, with a smile, apologized for repeating the old adage that money isn’t every- thing, and stated that If the movies were to deprive her of some day hay- ing a husband and children, she would quit immediately. Featured opposite Robert Young in “Stowaway,” Alice Faye surpasses every previous role in her perform- ance and singing, with Shirley, of several new song hits by Gordon and Revel and a happy topical song by Irving Caesar. Eugene Pallette, Helen Westley, Arthur Treacher, J. Edward Brom- berg and Astrid Allwyn are also fea- tured in Shirley's supporting cast in “Stowaway.” More WPA Spendings in Montana Expected ‘Washington, Dec. 24.— (#) —Mon- tana's senators expressed hope Thurs- day that Montana works progress funds would be supplemented to meet emergency relief conditions in the state.
