Kelly-Springfield Tire Never Gets Fatigued against fatigue is being offered the motoring public by The Fleck Motor Sales, Inc. local Kelly-Springfield dealer. It is a new descriptive term and it is a new idea in tire building, “The Kelly-Springfield engineers have been working on this new Fa- tigue-proof tire for more than a year. and would become tired and that Poorly made tires, in which cheap materialS had been used, would soon show fatigue and speedily fail. They ‘argued that race horses, athletes, Prize fighters, soldiers and all living things became tired upon exertion; jthen why not an automobile tire which is subjected to ceaseless and vruelling exertion? Scientific grounds |for the theory were advanced and, it ‘appears, proved. “At any rate, the Kelly-Springfield 0 | engineers, starting from this new con- jception of tire life and safety, have developed this new Fatigue-proof ure, which is hailed as one of the greatest victories in tire construction ever known, “Basically, there are just two prin- ‘ciples involved, the quality of the imaterials used and the new processes devised in assembling these materials. The cotton and the rubber that go into these new Kelly-Springfields is the best; the cotton is far kinkier than that used in any other tire and the rubber is always ‘prime first.’ By @ special process this kinky cotton is |made into a fabric that grips and | holds; the rubber is forced under tons of pressure into the weave with the result that there is achieved a never- before-known resistance to fatigue, strain, blowout and bruises, all the failures of ordinary tires, “I unhesitatingly endorse the Kelly- | Springfield engineers’ statement that no tire like these were ever built be- fore’.” Pens | Heaton By SARAH HEINLE Bernard Hall and John Williams nae at the Joe Holkup home Tues- | day. Gears shift as smoothly, silently and safely at any driving speed as though there were no gears. Spring action is automatically controlled by shock ab- sorbers that instantly and infallibly adjust themselves to all conditions. Body construction rep- resents a new treatment to distinguish the cars. They are larger, roomier, more powerful, speedier. Both in- corporate the patented Fisher No- Draft individually controlled ventila-; tion system. Olsmobile will be exhibited by Fleck Motor Sales, Inc. Front-end treatment of the eight shows slender chromium bars ar- ranged in herring-bone style to com- wose the radiator grill, which is V- shaped with a slight forward curve at the base. The radiator shell is) lacquered to match the color of the bodies and has a chromium moulding outlining its inner edge. Mounted on the radiator is an ornament, the wa- ter filler cap having been placed un- der the hood. Bullet Type Lamps The individuality of the six is em- phasized by a close mesh radiator grill of chromium finish, behind} which the radiator core is concealed. Bullet type headlamps are mounted on windstream standards that flow into the curves of the front fenders. Front fenders are deeply skirted, | their curves at the side meeting those | of the radiator shell, then flow down | to the running board level, meeting it in practically a horizontal line. The rear fenders also are balanced, closely following the contour of the wheel. A skirt on the rear fenders has a metal lining that conceals the | rear chassis parts from view. All exposed are also concealed to add to the newly attained picture of unity of design. Windshield and pillars slope backward, with the front door foliow- ing the same lines. Doors extend to, vhe running board, eliminating the) cust apron. The finished appearance of the | rear ends is accentuated on five- | wheel models by a spare tire mounted | cn a sloping carrier, the tire being} fitted with a metal tire cover. Still other models are equipped with a} built-in trunk. | Gadgets Automatic An improved automatic choke, au- tomatic spark, automatic water tem- perature control and automatic car- ouretor heater are among the many features that add to the comfort and safety of the driver. The new auto- matic water temperature control is operated by a bellows-type thermostat that by-passes the water when the engine is cold, circulating it through the engine and not the radiator until an efficient operating temperature is reached. The six cylinder engine develops 80 horsepower and the straight eight 90 horsepower. Top speeds in both cars are higher. Improved downdraft carburetion not only increases power and acceleration under all traffic conditions, but gives greater starting efficiency. Among other mechanical features are softer and smoother braking; easier steering; riding ease improved through free-acting, threaded spring shackles; double-action hygraulic shock absorbers; a quiet second speed, synchro-mesh transmission; a gene- rator of ample charging capacity, oil filter; air cleaner and carburetor in- take silencer; engine driven fuel pump and gear type oil pump. All sheet metal parts are rustproofed be- fore being lacquered or enameled. { The models of both the six and | eight Oldsmobiles are: Five passenger | sedan, five wheels, no trunk; five passenger touring sedan, either five | or six wheels, trunk standard; five Passenger touring coupe, either five or six wheels, trunk standard; busi- ness coupe, either five or six wheels, no trunk, and sport coupe, either five or six wheels, no trunk. SAFETY ON ROAD Huge reflectorized signs from eight to 10 feet high are now being placed at important highway intersections in California. AND THAT'S PLENTY! The state of California allows auto- mobiles traveling its roads to use nine lights on the front of the car, all of which must be of amber or white color, THEY'VE ENOUGH OF IT Maine voters recently overwhelming- ly defeated the proposal to increase the state gas tax from 4 to 5 cents a Gallon, American-operated airlines carried 540,680 passengers during 1932, an in- crease of 18,000 over the previous year. NEW ROCKNE SK LOWER, ROOMIER Power Also Is Increased in Two Lines Available, Standard And De Luxe The new Rockne Six has been made roomier and more powerful. Bodies have been made larger and further streamlined. Sandin-Wilde, Inc. is Bismarck distributor. In the line are de luxe and stand- ard five-passenger sedans, de luxe and standard coaches, de luxe and standard coupes with and - without rumble seats, de luxe and standard five-passenger convertible sedans and de luxe and standard convertible roadsters. All the models have been lowered more than one inch, and are equip- Ped with improved Studebaker free wheeling in all forward speeds, plus synchronized shift and silent second. ‘he horsepower of the Rockne motors has been increased to 70 at 3,200 tevolutions per minute. Automatic switch-key starting is on all models. All passenger car models are equipped with safety glass wind- shields and closed models are wired for radio. Motors Float on Rubber Rockne motors are floated on live rubber at all four points of suspen- sion, giving freedom from engine vi- bration. The chassis are of the “X” frame design. Electro-plated pistons, silent threaded spring shackles and guadruply balanced crankshafts arc used. The wheelbase is 110 inches. Bodies are one piece all-steel con- struction—four basic steel sections fused into one by flash welding. A new handling of front fenders con- ceals underneath parts of the chas- sis. Radiators and windshields are stoped and visorless header panels, streamlined tops and air-foil apron at the rear reduce wind resistance. They are insulated against dirt, noise and outside temperatures. ‘Wide chromium-faced bumpers are on all models. A new doorless head jamp is plated in chromium. On de luxe models two chromium-plated horns are installed, one beneath each head lamp. De luxe models have trunk racks and six wire jwheels, with two spares being mounted in fender wells.
