Many Models Mark Showings Costumer Recent Warm Weather Gives Impetus to Buying Move- ment in This Area Although a late Easter has allowed ‘Bismarck women more time than us- ual to select their spring costumes, the Tecent unseasonably warm weather has given added impetus to early buy- ing, @ survey of local shops reveals. Stocks are very complete at most of the stores, permitting the buyer to choose a complete outfit either in contrasting or harmonizing tones. Coats and suits are the best seilers at the present time, with print dresses increasingly popular. Light woolens, crepes of all sorts and wvyieds are displayed in modish and fetching de- signs. Coats, while following a modified silhouette, achieve new smartness through unusual collar and sleeve treatments. Capes, mainly detach- able, predominate, and fur trimmings are much in evidence, though there is a tendency for smaller amounts of fur than in last fall's models. In many cases fur is replaced by white pique, used for detachable revers, piping and dlowers. One shop is showing a tricky num- ber called “Balanced Budget,” which is quite in keeping with its name. De- veloped in black Argyle crepe, :t has a removable cape topped with rows of black buttons and a ferky white Pique flower. Another moi: at the same shop, made on conservative lines ts called “Hoarded Treasure.” Still another, designed as “Currency Ex- pansion,” has broad revers of Pique, | an ascot scarf of the coat material At another shop was a coat of soft blue wool with the new “tray” should- er line and cartridge pleatiag topping the sleeves. Other modeis had full- ness introduced by seamiogs, gathers and tucks. A lovely grey wool coat had band- ings of mole at the shoulder seams, a throw collar and full sleeves. Sports coats in Bismarck shops show an ar- ray of soft materials and delicious new colors, among them Araby rose, Elfin green, and a yellow, known as stargold. Featured too are the more familiar grays, bieges and natural camel’s hair. Suits May Be Mannish Or Not Suits this spring fall into two classi- fications, the tailored ones of men’s! wear fabrics or feminine models trimmed with capes, bits of fur and Possibly with a blouse of dainty or- gandy. A new neckline destined for Pepularity because of its youthfulness, js the Peter Pan collar, developed in either fluffy or flat fur and more often than not detachable. One shop had a model of this kind in a gray- blue with a collar of gray shaved jamb. A brown wool crepe had a fitted jacket buttoning down the front and a flattering fox collar reaching to the waistline. The collar was removable tor wear later in the season. In one shop was a very practical three-piece swagger type outfit of yel- low biege homespun, ‘with tailored three-fourth length top-coat to be worn over the matching suit. The jacket buttoned from neckline to waist and had @ soft tie of the ma- terial. Illustrative of the practical little suit that looks like & dress, a black crepe outfit (right) has a skirt with front Pleats and a jacket with wide-armholed sleeves that taper down to tight cuffs, a surplice closing and a belt that buckles handsomely in front. Under this is a hand-tuck- ed organdy blouse, of white, that has @ triple, ruffed Jabot that floats out over the jacket, to make the sult look like a dress. One of the new pastel blue crepe dresses (left) also has a triple effect. This time it is sleeves in three tiers. The monk's collar and the front por- tion of the belt are both made of interlaced white pique strips. There 4s a little fancy cutting to the seams that gives distinction to the frock. It is an admirable choice for tea- time hours. mannish suit, in dark grey flannel, with trousers in addition to the skirt, The perennially popular knitted suits continue to hold their place, with every shop showing several new de- Cress with swagger coat and matching bag and hat and also a tailored frock with a knee-length cape. One house carries a line of beautiful silk knits for sports wear and also a new num- ber of lacy design, known as “Sunday Night Knits,” in such shades as spaa blue, seafoam green and copper rust. Triple-Sheers Leading ‘Triple-sheers, in navy and black, and in printed and embroidered de- | signs will be the standby of many women’s wardrobes if dresses dis- played in local shops are any indica- tion. There are an abundance of new semi-tailored designs of the types which are suitable for every occasion from early morning until night. Other arguments in their favor are their coolness, the ease with which they may be cleaned or packed and the fact that most of them have organdy or other lingerie touches which may be freshened or changed frequently to give variety to the dress. An innovation in triple-sheer is the dress with matching swagger coat or cape and these are obtainable at sev- eral shops in plain or printed designs in dark or light colors.
