CHICAGO BOARD OF TRADE Future Grain and Provisions CHICAGO, Feb. 9.—Early in the day the market was weakened by free selling on the part of the pit traders, who were moved by a weak market at Liverpool and an estimate of 10,000,000 , bushels for the world’s total move- ment for the week. About the middle of the duy the demand became much more active and sentiment in .the wheat pit became bullish. A report from St. l’el!n’hlfl‘g said that a large issue of Government bonds had been authorized in order to meet famine relief requirements, while cablegrams from several European grain centers announced purchases of wheat for ship- ment to Russia. Shorts covered actively during the last half hour and caused a strong market at the close. May opened %c to e lower at T4% @74%c, advanced to 80%@8S0%c and closed 3,@%c net higher at 803 @SO%e. Declduous and Citrus Fruits Despite the continued pleasant weather, the Orange market remained stagnant. with supplies of grades liberal, and prices were barely steady. ~Stocks were Increased by. 3 carloads of Navels and ome car of Tangerines. The latter were brought in in expectation of a brisk de- mand among the Chinese for the New Year fes. tivities, and were firmly held at the flat rate of $1.50 per box. Lemons and fine seedless Grape Fruit continued to meet with a fair demand at steady prices, and Mexican Limes were almost too searce to be quoted. There was nothing new to report in Apples or Pears. Advices from Watsonville say tbat the Straw- berry patches fn that region are in full bloom | and it {s expected that the crop will be ready for market within five weeks If the weather continues fine. Smail shipments of early Ber- rles can of course be expected before the expl- ration of the period mentioned. From present Indications this vear’s crop of Strawberries will be a bumper one, fully 30,000 chests being ex- pected from the Watsonville region alone.
