The incorporation of the new company has not been completed, but it is known that Frank Golden, presl- dent of the Nye and Ormsby Bank, is | behind the deal and that other promi- nent operators are associated with him. The group is one that has attracted conslderable attention and it is stated on good authority that Dr. Hugens of | San Francisco, the original locator of the ground, has refused flattering of- fers for the property. The clalms end- line the properties of the Belmont, To- nopah Mining and North Star companies and R. Q. side lines of the Jim Butler group. It Is the general beliet among mining men of the camp that the ledges of the blg producing mines around which the camp has grown dip into the group had by the consolidated com- pany and will be easily found there. The properties adjoining the new venture have been shipping ore and paying dividends for yvears, and If the belief of the mining men is justified TONOPAH IS PROGRESSIVE. Another event of no little importance to this camp is the ordering of an offi- clal survey of the streets and alleyways by the County Commissioners sitting as Governors of the town. Tonopah is not | Incorporated and there was no original townsite laid out at the inception of the camp. All property is purchased from the mining companies holding the ground and great confusion as to the exact location of the streets and by- ways has resulted from the fact that no proper survey existed. The Com- missioners hesitated to inflict the ex- pense of the operation on the county, but have been advised by attorneys that location of all streets definitely fixed. Conditions at Manhattan appear to be improving and the decided advance in many stocks of that camp indicates that Investors are again taking an in- terest in this region. Within the past week reports have reached here of sev- | eral remarkably rich finds i well- | known properties, which are received | | by mining men acquainted with condi- | tions as reliable. Special Dispatch to The Call, Was reported this week, to Professor J. L. Jenny, ' mining geologist, 1s thought to be a big deal, although the price paid is withheld. GREAT ACTIVITY IS SHOWN. Travel through here to the camp has increased and a number of mining ex- perts are looking carefully over prop- ertles evidently in the interest of pros- pectlve buyers. The announcement by the Tonopah Exploration Company, Which controls the large maijority of the water supplies that could be brought to the camp, that it would at once prepare to erect a mill for the treatment of its own ores and for cus- tom work, has been hailed with delight in Manhattan. Another company bacik. ed by Salt Lake capitallsts is looking over the ground and there is some pros- pect that it means business. These facts all point to a revival of the ac-| tivity that the San Francisco disaster | followed by the opening of the summer season brought on. Probably the greatest excitement in| the mining flelds of this reglon just at this time centers around Greenwater, | the wonderful copper district in Inyo| County, Cal, fifteen miles from the Ne- | vada line. Many local men are heavily interested there and the mining heavy- welghts of the country, Schwab, Wal- BOOM AT GREENWATER. J. W. A. Off, president of the Off, McGarvin-Brown Company of Los An- geles, has returned here from Green- water. He states that the roads are crowded with men and freight moving into the camp. He estimates that dur- ing his stay at least fifty men a day arrived. Off says that Greenwater has the most wonderful showings on the sur- face he has ever seen, and he has in- vestigated the big camps of this coun- try and Mexico. He cites one instance where a width of three feet of solid 35 per cent copper is exposed. He says of them:. The Furnace Creek Copper Company, owned by Patsy Clark, has reached a depth of 180 feet and proven values all the way. The large operators of Tonopah, Mal- colm MacDonald, Donald B. Gillies and others, hold the original location of Greenwater and recently formed a big company to work the ground. They also control the telephone company and have directed that the wires be extend- ed from Bullfrog to Greenwater. DINNER 15 GIVEN . GENERAL SMITH. Governor James F.
