“ MUNICIPAL LIGHT PLANT WINS After. 13 years of steadily increas- ing success,-the municipal light plant of Pasadena, Cal,, which all that time has been in competition with a private ' company, has finally won a complete « and decisive victory over: its compet- itor. : On July 1 the city of Pasadena, by* a vote of 6% to 1, indorsed a bond is- sue of $500,000 with which the city has acquired the' distributing system and substation of the Southern Cali- fornia Edison company, which was the ‘city’s competitor heretofore. On July 15 the city took over the plant, added it to the city’s system and is now operating the whole as a-unit and oc- cupying the entire field of electric lighting within the city’s limits. Thus in 13 years of municipal own-, ership, the city of Pasadena has built up a business from nothing to $500;- 000 per year from the sale of nearly 21,000,000 kilowatt hours. And mean- while the plant has reduced the cost of electricity from 1212 cents a kilo- watt hour to 5 cents, scaling down to 3 cents and 1.2 cents, with an average return of 414 cents. And it has never raised its rates. FOR BETTER FARMING Eight western counties in -North: Dakota voted more than two to one to continue agricultural extension work at the last election.
