Easy Now to Saw Logs and Cut Down Trees Only one man, or even a boy, with the impreved Ottawa Engine Log Saw can easily cut twenty-five to forty cords a day, and at a cost of less than 2¢ per cord. This machine, which out- does all others, has a heavy, cross cut saw driven by a powerful especially designed 4-cycle ‘gasoline engine.. It’s a fast money-maker for those using it, and does more than ten men could do, either cutting down trees, sawing logs, or buzzing branches while you rest. When not sawing, the engine can be used for other work requiring power. Beware of Imitations. The entire machine is mounted on truck wheels to make it easy to move to the trees or logs, and from cut to cut on a log without stopping the en- gine. For moving on the road, the truck wheels are placed parallel with the skids and the rig hauled straight ahead. The wheels turn on a two- way spindle. You do not have to take them off, but can change direction of wheel travel by merely taking out a pin. The Ottawa can be fitted for saw- ing down trees. It cuts level with surface of ground, thereby getting all the timber and leaving no stumps sticking up. An automatic friction clutch stops the saw in case of undue resistance. Two men can fall forty to fifty trees a day in ordinary timber. The outfit is compact, simple, dur- able against a lifetime of hard wear. Sells for a low price, cash or easy pay- ments. Guaranteed for reliable opera- tion in the hands of every one who-has trees to cut down and logs to work up. _Full information and low factory price to you can be had simply by ad- dressing the Ottawa Mfg. This also means the end of the “federation.” Founded nearly a year ago with the avowed purpose of driving the Non- partisan league out of Nebraska, the New Nebraska federation has gone the way of all similar organizations. The federation’s organ was edited by Horace M. Davis, former editor at Ord, Neb., who was practically driven from that county by the irate League farmers. : Davis also was connected with the notorious Business Men’s association, which hired detectives and spies dur- ing 1917 to try and discredit the League. Davis was one of the men who Detective Moore, in his state- ments, said wanted to “frame” the League leaders. In its own obituary the New Ne- braskan says its “mission” has been accomplished, If its “mission” was to publish lies and slanders about the farmers of Nebraska and of North Da- kota, it 'fulfilled its mission. But if the object was to discredit the League it failed pitiably. Davis says the reason for the death of the New Nebraskan is lack of funds. The ‘real reason is that the people of Nebraska were no longer willing to even read a newspaper that was filled from the first page to the last with deliberate misrepresentation. The independent editors of = the weekly newspapers of the state started this year an editorial barrage that the New Nebraskan and its editor could not stand up under. Consequently both ran for cover. - Editor after editor denounced its lies and misrepresentations Davis, in a recent issue, whimpered for nearly a column about the attacks. Since the New. Nebraska federation was formed the Nonpartisan league has added thousands of new members in this state, will more than double its representation in the new legislature and has better than a fighting chance to elect its candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and congress in the third district. Kansas Reign of Terror Continues in Governor Allen’s State _ ANSAS'’ reign of terror appar- ently is not over. When farmer-labor forces assembled recently at Junction City for a _convention. they found that Elmer T. Peterson, editor of Governor Allen’s ‘Wichita Beacon, and R. B. Warwick, a St. John insurance agent and head of the American Legion post at that place, had succeeded in organizing a “vigilance committee” of business men, who would not allow the farmers and workers to hold their meeting un- til it had been agreed that W. E. Free- man, president. of the Kansas State Federation of Labor, should not speak. _H. A, Dykstra, a Stafford county farmhand, who had expressed sympa- thy with-the Nonpartisan league, was kidnaped by a gang of mobsters from St. John, including members of the American Legion post. of that place. He was relayed from post to post and finally was driven out of the state and across the Colorado line, with threats against his life if he returned. Dyk- stra returned, however, consulted with attorneys and states he will bring suit against the mobbists. until- Satisfaction guaranteod. GATES MFG. C0.
