Don'’t laugh, please; it’s a sad affair. i Here we have the tragedy of the busted machine, which is SOME ‘ ~ tragedy for Big Biz and his busy little helpers in North Dakota. { The machine here depicted is what is known as a separator, or threshing machine. You knew that, anyway, didn’t you? But we want it to be plain to all, even to the townspeople who read these lines." Tt has been used in the past to separate the farmers of North Da- kota from their cash. It has been doing this efficiently—very, very ‘ - efficiently. * Every year the farmer fattens up with wealth he has pro- S8 duced by long, hard work in the fields, tilling the rich North Dakota soil. ; - Every year, when he is “ripe,” he has been reaped and put through this ‘machine. He comes out with tattered clothes and empty pockets, while - the stream of golden grain has been poured.into the bins of Big Biz and carted off to build palaces and fortunes in other states. : . Tt has been 2 highly profitable business for Big Biz, the owner of the threshing outfit, and the members of his crew, consisting of corrupt _ politicians, the servile newspapers and some citizens of North Dakota. - But Big Biz has got most of the profits. We don’t want to accuse anybody, but it may be so.
