Flour continued in demand and was again firmer. Wheat was in good demand, principaily for futures, ‘at fair prices, Corn was quiet at lower prices. THE FOREIGN MARKET. London advices report a quiet condition of affairs, the late quotations being as follows ;—Con- ols for money, 92% a 9254; Consols for account, 9236 @ 925¢; five-twenty bonds of 1865 (old), 953 & 95%; five-twenty bonds of 1867, 95% a 96%; ten-forty bonds, 0% oa 9%; new fives, 91%; Erie railway shares, 47%; mew French loan, 7% per cent premium, In Amsterdam the following quotations cl Tent :—Central Pacific first mortgage bo! ‘Union Pacific first mortgage -bonds, 68%: Weatern preferred, 695; St. Paul preferred, Waion Paciflo stock, 23; Erie shares, 514. ¥ Monoy in London is more active, and the rate of discount for three months’ bills in open market is 8 per cent—a full quarter above the minimum rate at the Bank of England. The bourse will be ‘closed to-morrow in conseqvence of a recurring holiday. THE MONEY MARKET. At an early hour to-day money commanded 687 Percent. In the afternoon the rate advanced to 7 per cent in gold, and when the market closed loans Were made as high as 1-32 a 1-16. Foreign ex, change advanced, as the result of the decline in old, co 1075 for sixty days sterling and 108% for @ight. Actual business was done at a concession of % @ X per cent. GOLD LowsR. ‘The price of gold receded to-day from 115% to 1496 @ 114%, considerable excitement attending the decline. Numerous rumors were afloat con- cerning the cause, and Wall street was all agog to get at their truth, but withont avail. Large sales ‘Were made between the above figures, in which utaide parties are said to have generously parti- eipated; and not a little conversational fervor ex- hibited itseif at the close of the market over the wmexpected dénouement, The secret of the sud- den decline has yet to be told. It may appear during the next four or five days. Chrystaltzation does not always occur in an hour; but eifervescence 4s the matter of a moment. ‘The rates paid for carrying to-day were 1, 2, 3, 38% and 4 per cent, and for borrowing fat. The custom receipts were $413,000, The Assistant Treasurer to-day paid out $85,000 on account of interest and $15,000 in re- demption of five-twenty bonds. SOUTHERN SECURITIES, In Southern bonds business was nomina'. Old Tennessees are quoted at 81% a 823;, and new 81% @ 83. Old Virginias are 42448; new, 50 bid; consois, 51 a 52, and delerred, 124124. We quote mew North Carolinas at 16 bid, special tax offering at 14. New July South Carolinas 14 a 15, and April 2834 8 30}¢. Missouri sixes sold again at 91, with closing quotations at 90% a 91. Louisiana levee sixes closed at 55 bid, and levee eights at 65 860, while for Alabama eights 45 was bid. GOVERNMENT BONDS, The business in this department was again in- active, owing to causes that have been frequently named, and to-day prices were a trifle lower In consequence of the decline in gold.
