Novertheless, the contest of these mannikins is amusing. Nomunally, the politicians here are 'vided into thie Porties; really, each of theee is subdivided! into severa’ factions, These last are resoivable into numerous Cliques. Tbe democratic pa'ty is split up into two sectious—the Lecompton and anti-Lecompton; the repubiicans into two—the straight outs, who profer Seward and @ direct issue, and the softs, who are for a coalition upon some moderate man, The Americana are divided into the straight outs, with Stockton at the head, opposed to any- thing but # through and through American ticket, and the free woois, who rather like being sold out, and who are in the market once more, It is very much as you Dave it in New York. I shall probably give you ‘a little akoten of all these cliques before long; but intend to confine myself just now to the democracy, whose Staic Convention will be beld in « few days at this placo, aud Governor on the principic thet they set up tenpin dats. Returns are not in from all thess dele kate elections; but, with the exception of Sussex, where there are two delegations, the admioistration bas rat tbe best of it. The greatest thing, however, is the ni of to day, that in Bergea county, the Berks of the 3tate ope of few that increased ite democratic vote at les’ election, bas shoeen eleven out of seventeen anti-Lecompton oe) As this was in a county where there were only five of the party who bolted the track and voted tor Riggs sgainet Hoyler, it is ratber astovish'ng. I think it will be found to be an erroveous classification. The Convention will be, by all odde, the stormicst ever beid in New Jersey; and the outside members will muster very strovg. Few believe the candidate van be slecied. Unfortunately, the Convention i8 not likely to adopt that course atall. It will probably sustain the administration thus far in a proper action; bui it will pomipate one or other of those whose names have been already brought before the people, whereupon th: republicans will sweep the State. Not one of the candi dates vamed has suflicient pluck to take the — course, which ‘3 to stand up manfully for the administration. They will truckle to tho followers of Riggs and Ryerson, and thus will lose their own side, and gain nothing from the oppoattion. However, allthis is not gospel.
