8 Religious Intelligence. ORDINATION. ‘The public services of the ordination of Mr. Altred P. Putnam as. of the Mt. Pleasant church in Roxbury, Mass., took place on the 19th inst. INVITATIONS. The Unitarian Society in Sti have invited Rev. Mr. Knapp, formerly of Nantucket, and more recently of West Newton, to become their pastor. Rev. J.C. Richmond has been invited to accept the rectorship of Zion church in Newport, R. I. The First Orthodox Congregational church in Somerville have given a call to ‘Rev. Benjamin Jud- kins, of Boston, to become their pastor. Mr. Jud- kins was formerly settled at Nantucket. The Rev. Edward Meyer, late of Philadelphia, has accepted and entered upon a call to the rectorship of St. Paul’s church, Akron, Summit county, Ohio. Rev. E. B. Sherwood, recently of Pitcher, N. Y., has accepted a call to the Presbyterian church in Edwardaburg, Cass county, Micnigan, and entered upon his labors at that place. ‘The Rev. D. V. M. Johnson, missionary in charge of the Floating church of the Holy Comforter, has accepted a call to the rectorship of St. Mary's church, Brooklyn. Rev. Robert E. Wilson, of Corning, has accepted the call of the Presbyterian chureh in Clyde, x ¥., and entered upon his charge. Rey. George A. Oviatt, of Chi Mass., has accepted a call to the Congrega! onal church in Sener, Conn., of which Rev. Dr. Vaill was recently pastor. The Rev. F. W. Thomas, formerly of Baltimore, and more recently of Illinois, has been called to the ‘oral charge of St. Paul’s church at Louisburg, -C., and has accepted the same. INSTALLATIONS. On the evening of Wednesday, December 5, the Rev. John L. See was duly installed pastor of the First Reformed Dutch church of Buffalo, by a Com- mittee of the Classis of Geneva. The Rev. Dana B. Bradford was installed pastor of the Congregational church in Raymond, N. H., on the 6th inst. Rey. E. Vine Wales was installed pastor of the Congregational church of York, Livingston county, on the 12th inst. Rev. A.E.P. Perkins was installed at Ware, Mags., on the 5th inst. Rey. T. B, Wilson was installed over the 0. S. charch in Xenia, Ohio, on the 4th inst. RESIGNED. The Rev. W. Presbury has resigned the charge of the Church of the Epiphany, Port Gibson, Claiborne <ounty, Miss.,,and accepted a call to Grace church, Paducah, Kentneky. ‘The Rev. W. Kirtland Douglass has resigned the rectorship of St. John’s church, Warehouse Point, Conn., and removed to Water Proof, Louisiana. The Rev. Frederick Sill has resigned the super- vision of St. Paul's City Mission, New Haven, Conn., and removed to Red Hook, N. Y., as a missionary in connection with Christ church. DEATHS IN THE MINISTRY. Died in Utica, on the 18th inst., Rev. James Foun- tain, in the 69th year of his age. Died at Chambersburg, Pa., on the 7th inst., Rev. Daniel McKinley, D. D. NEW CHURCHES. The new Dutch Reformed church of Mott Haven, was dedicated to the worship of God, on Thursday, 20th inst. The vew edifice of the North Reformed Datch church of Brooklyn, on Clermont, near Myrtle ave- nue, will be dedicated to the worship of God on ‘Thureday evening, 27th inst. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, the new edifice in the town” ship of Sandyston, Sussex county, N.J., in connec” tion with the R. P. Dutch Church of Minisink, was dedicated to the service of Almighty God. On Monday, 3d inst., the neat and inviting edifice Of the Reformed Dutch chutch of Colt’s Neck was ted to the service of the Triune God, About one hundred persons convened, on Tues- day, evening, Dec. 18, at the house of worship el by Mr. Jerome, in Wooster place, New Haven, and unanimously voted to form a religions church and society to worst under the care of the Rey. Dr. J. G. Hamner, of Baltimore, who has sup- plied the pulpit for a few weeks past, A ‘new Presbyterian church was dedicated at the head of the Delaware, (Stamford, N. Y.,) on the 12th inst. A correspondent informs us that the church has but about a dozen male members—most of those in moderate circumstances, while not one is wealthy. The edifice is plain and neat, seating three hundred persons, built at a cost for site and building of $2,250, of which $400 remains to be paid, for which assistance from abroad will be indispensable. MISCELLANEOUS. Rev. Charles Howard Malcom, a son of Rev. Howard Malcom, D. D., having recently graduated at Princeton Theological Seminary, has Cel pe bg pestorship of the Baptist church in Wheeling, ‘a. We learn that Christ Church parish, in Hartford, Conn., has at last secured a rector. The clergyman who has accepted the post is Rev. R. M. Abercrom- bie, rector ot St. John’s church at Clifton, Staten Island. He will enter upon his duties the first Sun- day in February. There is said tobe quite a revival of religion among the convicts of the Auburn State prison. On the 25th ult., fifteen who had expfessed hope were baptized. The meetings on the Sabbath are very interesting. Rey. Mr. Cleghorn, formerly pastor of a congrega- tion in Augusta county, Va., has been appointed chaplain at the§port of Callao, by the Seamen's Friend Society, and has sailed for his destination. The Rev. C. C. Townsend, lately officiating in Towa City, bas been appointed a travelling mission- ary in Jowa by the Bishop and the Standing Com- mittee, acting as a Diocesan Board of Missions. The Rey. John 8. Dewey has undertaken for the resent the charge of St. Paul’s city mission, New Baveny Conn. Rev. Wm. &. Post, of Warnerville, New York, has taken charge of the Presbyterian church in Jones boro, Llinois. On the 19th instant the twentieth anniversary of the Philadelphia Home Missionary Society took lace at the Musical Fund Hall. After prayer a the Rey. J. A. Roche, and music by the choir, under the direction of Dr. Brown, Mr. Stewart read the annua! report. During the year ending the 15th inst., 7,075 families were assisted by the association, 1,436 tons of coal were distributed, 124 cords of wood, $1,836 worth of groceries. The following ar- ticles were given out at the oflice:—293 bushels of beans, 112 bushels of hominy, 9 bnshels of dried pear, 12 bushels of table salt, 10,575 pounds of rice, 150 pounds of oatmeal to the sick, 9,100 loaves of wheat bread, 3,180 articles of clothing, 138 barrels of cornmeal, & barrels of sugar, 2 barrels of crack- era, L barrel of wheat flour, 150 pounds of fresh beef, 7 chests of black tea, and 570 pairs new shoes. In the same period I3 families were furnished with medical advice; 11 persons were sent to their homes at a distance; 14,003 visits were made by the mis- sionaries, who dittributed 31,800 pages of tracts and 105 bibles, preached 55 sermons and attended 117 funerals; 3! persons have professed and given evi- dence of a change of heart; 653 cases were reported “unworthy,” 328 cases could not be found. Of the 7,073 families relieved, 3,008 were of foreign birth, 2,681 white American, 1381 colored. 408 claimed to be Presbyterians, 908 Methodists, 144 Baptists, 342 Episcopalians, 654 Roman Catholics, and 4,617 were members of no church. The whole amonnt expended by the society from Dec. 15, 1854, to Dec. 15, 1855, was $19,522 05; received during the same period, $17,653 27—-leaving a deficit of $1,865 73. Atthe commencement of the year there were $1,510 48 in the treasury, so that the indebtedness of the year is stated to be $258 30.
