Anacher Charge of Impoachment o s i Oklahoma City, Jan, 235 UP—The o Eimning e of the state Jegislature today rested on spiritual- | ism and Hindu philosophy as alleg- | ©od factors in influencing the regime of Governor Henry 8. Johnston, now under suspension, and facing im- peachment. Out of the maze Of testimony, charges, tales of strange Hindn| chants and mystic Oriental philoso- phy practiced by those behind the | governor's chair, one bit of prac-| tical action stod out, the addition of another charge of impeachment to the seven already voted against the | chief executive by the house of | representatives. | This charge dealt with the much- | discussed pardoning by Johnston ofl Dewey Crossthwaite, & convicted | murderer, in December 1928, while | Crossthwalte was listed as a fugitive | from justice. i The charge was voted after deter- | mined opposition delayed action by the house for a considerable time | yesterday and physical combat was averted only by quick intervention of house members when the lie was | passed as opposing factions flared . into anger during spirited debate. House to Act The house has yet to act upon | two charges brought by its investi- gating committee which yesterday delved farther into alleged adminis | trative irregularty,i brought to light the first hint of occultism to which bellet it has begn said he governor himself adheres. Hammonds, confidential secretary of the chief executive, | and often spoken of as the “Mrs. | Colonel House" of the’administra- tion. | Sullivan, repeatedly interrupting |} his testimony with spirited protests, saild he had gone to Armstrong's: home at the request of the governor | to get Armstrong’s opinion on a legislative bill under threat of being Julled for contempt. Bullivan testi- fied that Armstrong “had five or six pots of incense. He was lighting them when I came into his bed- | room.” John Head, committee chairman, asked Sullivan if Armstrong chant- ed. ! The secretary testified that Mrs. Hammond, had declared at one time | that Johnston was “absolutely in- competent” and if it wasn’t for her “the administration would go on the rocks.” Recetved Money Armstrong, called before the sen- ate investigating comrgittee, said he had recelved contributions from | road contractors to go toward John- | ston’s defense fund, when he was ' threatened with impeachment last winter. The senats committee has been instructed to trace rumors that money entered into the sudden ces- | sation of these impeachment activi- | ties in December, 1927. | The threatened physical encounter | occurred when, on the fmpeachment article then up | for consideration, Charles Moon, of | Muskogee, and Bob Wagner of Wag- oner county, disagreed.
