Copies of the two new postage stamps issued in commemoration of the International Civil Aeronautics conference in Washington and the silver jubilee of the invention of the airplane have been received by local collectors. There are two denomina- tions, a two cent printed in carmine and a five cent blue. The former shows the first successful Wright airplane in flight, with the pilot sit- ting on the front of the lower wing, the engine exposed, and the numer- ous struts and surfaces which have long since been eliminated. On the five cent a modern monoplane, contrasting sharply with the old Wright biplane, is seen against a the earth. Both stamps have similar frames, with the Washington monument at the left and the Capitol at Washing- ton at the right. “International Civil Aeronautics Conference” and the dates “December 12, 13, 14, 1928, are also found on the stamps, in agdition to the usual “U. 8. Post- age” and designation of value. The stamps received here were mailed from the special post office in the building where the conference is being held. The stamps on the lotters are cancelled with a special machine cancellation bearing an air- plane and the name and dates of the conference. In honor of the occa- sion, the governmental ruling against colored postmarks was lifted, and the cancellations were applied green.
