2 HOUR SNOW 1§ CILORADES GIFT Thanksgiving Day Finds State Under Two Foot Goverage Denver, Nov. 30 P—Residents of six snowbound Rocky Mountain states turned from Thanksgiving feasting today to dig out from un- der & heavy snow that ended about the same time as the feasting did yesterday. The almost continuous 32-hour fall left the entire region blanketed with from one to two feet of snow, which aside from impairing trans- portation and communication sys- tems, caused remarkably little dam- age, as moderate temperatures pre- vailed, The sun was expected greatly to ald in clearing away the drifts to- day. The outlook was for fair and warmer weather throughout the re- gion, 600 Clear Streets ‘The heavy fall called forth real ‘Thanksgiving in the farming areas, as it brought needed moisture with- out causing suffering to livestock. Six hundred Denver laborers found holiday employment in clearing the streets and digging out stalled auto- mobiles. Ten inches of snow fell here, while 17 inches was reported at Lander, Wyo.,, Pike's Peak lay under a 22 inch covering today. Many of the better known moun- tain passes appeared definitely closed to motorists for the winter. Ralil- roads expected to open snowbound lines during the day however, and resumption of air mail service was promised. The storm last night passed on into the Mississippi valley, where the outlook was for snow today as far eastward as the Missouri river. CONTENDS MRS. OWEN'S ELECTION NOT VALID Declares Byran’s Daughter Not El- igible for Congress as She Married Englishman. Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 30 UP— Contending that Mrs. Ruth Bryan Owen, daughter of the late William Jennings Bryan, is ineligible to hold a seat in congress because of her marriage in 1910 to a British sub- Jject, Major Reginald Owen, member of the British Royal Engineers, Wil- liam Lawson, republican, who was defeated by Mrs. Bryan recently, to- Gay continued plans for a congres- sional contest. In event congress intercedes, it will be the first case in which a woman's membership of congress has been contested by the house. Lawson lost in his first move to prevent Mrs. Owen from serving when Governor John W. Martin de- clined the former's request to refuse issuance of a certificate of election to Mrs. Owen on the grounds of her questioned citizenship. Mrs. Owen, who is in the west on a lecture tour, is said to regard Law- son’s contest threat as a joke, inas- much as her status had been ques- tioned before the election and that the voters had sclected her. Mrs. Stearns Reported As Better Today Washington, Nov. 30 (P—Im- provement in the condition of Mrs. Frank W. Stearns, of Boston, {ll at the White House where she has beea & guest of President and Mrs. Cool- idge, was reported today by the president’s physician, Colonel Cou- pal. The doctor sald Mrs. Stearns was “distinctly improved and resting comfortably.” With Mr. Stearns she had intended to accompany the Coolidges on their Virginia vacation but was held at the White House under the doctor's orders. In addition to his work as head of the publishing house which was founded in 1768, Sir John was editor of several auto- biographies and was active in var- ious social services.
