COURT FNES THREE RECKLESS DRIVERS $35 and Costs Penalty mposed Following Collisions Several motorists were arraigned in police court today, the result of 2ocidents and near accidents on the city street. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney W. M, Greenstein presented the stato's cases and Judge H. P. Roche heard all but one. Louis Waxman, aged 43, of ¢¢6 Arch street, who was arrested last Bunday afternoon about 2:45 o'clock denied that he was reckless in his handling of ‘his automobile at the corner of Arch street and Shuttle Meadow avenue. He was driving at the approximate speed of 20 miles an hour, he sald, south on Arch street. He sounded his horn before reaching the corner and did not see any other car until he was crossing Shuttle Meadow avenue, when a r1r driven by Fred Ficinus, of 81 Kel. sey street approached in a westerly direction on Kensington avenue to cross Arch street and continue along Shuitle Meadow avenue. The force of the impact overturned Waxman'a car, and the other car went 25 feet to the side of the road and hit a fire hydrant and broke it off. Waxman emphatically denied that he was d#ving at the rate of ¢0 miles an hour. “I'm not a green- horn,” he said. “I'm not a drunken man or a wild man.” Ficinus testified that he was driv- ing at the approximate rate of 18 to 20 miles an hour as he approach- ed the intersection. ' He and Miss Tdllian Suess of Kensington ave- nue were slightly injured in the ac- cident. b VArvid Carlson of 301 Linwood street testified that he saw the accl- gent and in his opinion Waxman was driving at the approximate rate of 40 miles an hour. Attorney Thomas | J. Cabelus, who heard the case on uccount of the disqualification of Judge Roche, said he felt there was no question but Waxman had failed to exercise due caution, all circum- stances considered. Waxman was not represented by coungel. A fine of $25 and costs was imposed. Canncll Fined $35 Ernest W. Cannell, aged*20, of 222 Fairview street, was fined $26 and costs on the charge of reckless driv- ing, and Mr. Greenstein nolled the | charge of violation of the rules of the road. Officer Peter C. Cabelus testified that he made the arrest after an investigation into a collision at the intersection of Washington and Lafayette strects at 9:40 yester- day forenoon. Cannell was driving a car owned by Joseph Pearl of Lin- coln street when it struck a car own- ed by Vincent Sastra of 90 Broad street. Bastra was going to New bsritain General hospital with Salva- tore Allano of 277 Lafayette street to visit a dying relative.
