The tires were stolen last Septem- ber 18 from the automobile service station of Leon Berkowitz at 213 Sea- view avenue, Jersey City. Patrolman Sheffmeyer was assigned to investi- gate the case, and it was only a few days later that he found evidence which indicated to him that the trail would lead stralght to his own home and to his only son. But he kept on. He did not even ask to be taken off the case. He ate with his son and he slept in the same house with him night after night, and during the day he was working, gathering evidence that more and more proved that the boy had had something to do with the theft. Finally the boy was arrested: The actual arrest was made by another policeman, but the other man could not give testimony for Sheffmeyer. So the policeman went on the stand and told what he had done and how he had learned the guilt of his own son. NEW WINDFALL FOR JERSEY.
