16 SURGEONS TO MEET AT PHILADELPHIA Quaker City to Be Host to Proes- sional Men the World Over | Philadelphia, Oct. 14.—In its inter- national character this year’s con- gress of the American College of Sur- geons, which opens here Oct. 24, sur- passes anything previous in the his- tory of the college. It two years’ work to bring together the surgeons of North and South America have result- cd in the attendance for the first time of a distinguished body of South Americans, while the regents of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland have broken precedent to come from Dublin to confer fellowships on eight Americans. Other leaders of fiom Edinburgh, Stockholm, The ilagre and Berne colony occupy prominent places on the four days’ program. Some 2,000 surgeons from «he United States and Canada have enrolled for the congress. Bestowal of -the honorary fellow- ships by the Irish College will mark the culminating feature of the con- gress, falling on Friday night. The Americans to receive the honor are Dr. George E. Brewer of New York, the profession Dr. George W. Crile of Cleveland, Dr. John M. T. Finney of Baltimore, Dr. Richard H. Harte of Philadelphia, Dr. W. Keen af Philadelphia, Dr| Charles 1. Mayo and Dr. William J. Mayo of |- hochester, Minn., and Dr, Robert J. Rochester, Minn. After invocation by Cardinal Dougherty, the fellowships will be conferred by Sir ‘Willlam I. de Courcy ‘Wheeler, vice-president of the Irish college of surgeons, Sir Robert Hy. Woods, past presidenj, and Sir Wil. iam Taylor, past president. The presidential address will thend be made by Dr. John B. Deaver of this city, and Sir Harold J. A comprehensive clinical pro- gram has been arranged. Hospital day has been added to this year's congress as a new fea- ture. This opens the congress on Monday. Final report on the stan- dardization program of the American College of Surgeons, dealing with Lospitals of 100 beds and more, will then be made.
