After a consultation with Mayor Orson F. Curtis this morning, Regis- trars of Voters Willilam Ziegler and Thomas J. Smith agreed to hold off their request for a salary increase until a more favorable time. The re- quest was to have been presented to- morrow evening at the December meeting of the council. Just what the amount of increase to be sought would be, had not been settled upon but it was felt that a sizeable sum, perhaps a raise from $1500 to $2000 a year would be asked. The work of the registrars office has increased 80 per cent. since the last increases were granted. The present salary is low compared to figures com- piled by the registrars from many other cities. In addition to the regis- tration, Messrs. Smith and Ziegler have been handling the personal tax enrollment in connectio with their remuneration is given in several of the other dates, a task for which special larger cities of the state.
