New York, Dec. 14.—Officers at the Rockaway naval air station today awaited word from three lieutenants who left there yesterday in a free balloon. The party, making the flight to study air currents expected to be car- ried westward several hundred miles an then over the Great Lakes into Canada. Lieut. Walter Hinton, who was a pilot on the NC-4 when that seaplane made its trans-Atlantic air voyage, is flight commander. His companions are Lieuts. Stephen A. Farrell and L. A. Kloor.
