After midnight tonight all telephone numbers in Key West will be NEW NUMBERS, So the old Exterior of the remodeled and enlarged Southern Bell Tele- _ Building on Southard treet at Simonton Street. _ TONIGHT at 12:00 midnight dial telephoné service be- gins in Key West. At that moment our modern dial equipment will go into operation, and the new dial tele- phone numbers will take effect for all subscribers. KEY WEST'S new telephone service will be as modern as is found anywhere. This-improved service is made possible by completion of a project which South- ern Bell has carried out at a cost of approximately $1,000,000. Besides new telephones throughout the City, this project included remodeling and enlargement of the Telephone Building, installation of dial switching equipment and other improvements. SOUTHERN BELL is proud of these completely modern facilities and happy to provide the finest kind of telephone service for the people of Key West. Our service here has grown with the City, and we want it to contribute to Key West's future growth. THE KEY WEST telephone exchange was opened by Southern Bell on May 18, 1883. There were then only 31 telephones in the City. By 1900 the number had in- creased to only 59. But thereafter the growth was faster. The fastest growth has been in recent years, however, In 1941 Key West had 1,373 telephones. Four years later that number had more than doubled. Today there are over 5,800 telephones. LIKE OTHER citizens of Key West, Southern Bell looks forward to continued growth and progress here, in which ever-growing telephone service will have an essential part. C. A.
