Miss Florence The entrance of | Burlingame in the race for county | auperintendent of schools gives the} people of Itasca county an opportun- ity to place a thoroughly competent educator at the head of their school | system. i Since the office of school superin- | tendent has been taken out of poli- | tics by making it non-partisan, the question that the voters have before them is the capability of the person to whom they will entrust the di- rection of their schools for the next two years. I may add that I consider those years of eountry school teaching as the most yaluable part of my training. In 3896 I graduated from the state Nor- mal schoo] at St. Cloud, and in 1900 from the New York University. I ‘Bold an advanced Normal school di- ploma, which constitutes a life teachers certificate, the degree of Master of Pedagogy from the Uni- versity, and a state Professional cer- tificate of te first grade. Since Jan- uary 1, 1901 I have taught almost continuously in the public schools of northern Minnesota, and for the last six years at Grand Rapids. I am now seeking the office of county superintendent because I believe I whould find in it a wider field of activity and a means of identifying myself still more closely with the people among whom I have made my home; because having become @ prop erty owner and a permanent resi- dent of the county, I am more than ever interested in anything that makes for the welfare and healthful development of the county; and be- cause I believe that with my varied training and experience I could’ do much to help the schools, especially the rural schools, to play their part in thes development.
