THE HOMELAND CQ, This is the second of a series of pictures and articles prepared by Margaret Nowell and Evening Star photographers, to aid those about to establish a home or to refurnish ting homes. Stress will be laid on economy of erpenditure wjth no sacrifice of good taste. The series will continue each Saturday in the Real Estate Section of The Star. If you have $300 for a living room, here is a picture of what it will do. This does not mean that the large pieces of furniture will cost that much, but you may reproduce this room down to the last lamp and picture for this amount. We are itemizing the cost of each piece in the room, so if you are a new bride and the family wants to give you some- thing really useful, suggest that they provide one piece of furniture, one lamp or picture and you may cross that off your list. \ Maple is attractive, sturdy and in simple lines is good forever. It is also inexpensive and will give you the “most for the money.” The match- ing loveseat and chair are covered in an attractive flowered linen in deep rust, pink and yellow shades. The hooked rug repeats these colors in its pattern. Green is introduced in the lamp bases and accessories and in the “sleepy hollow” chair, the chintz valance and tie-backs. The walls ! are butter yellow and the whole room gives an appearance of good taste, good design, comfort and livableness. Love seat ___ Club chair __ - Sleepy Hollow chai Maple desk. Maple coffee table Maple Hutch top table. 2 Maple side tables, $14.95 each. 1 Maple table ___ 1 Maple fern stand. 1 Maple magazine rack 2 Maple wall brackets, 2 pair curtains, $1.95 each (Valance chintz, $0.69 a yard.) From this list you may estimate costs, where you might save on one table and pay more for a chair, as you please. These prices are based on quality and func- tion . . . small pieces that do not face weight 'and wear are inexpensive, chairs are sturdy and upholstered in good materials and priced accord- ingly. Tables that are part of the main plan of the room are of good construction and finish.. The dining room of this little house is planned in the same wood and color scheme and will be discussed next week. All of these furnishings are available in Washington at the prices listed.
