Flrst Conqragalioml Church Will Hold Family Festival Rev. H. S. Anderson to Preach on ‘Songs My Mother Taught Me’ Mother's Day will be broadened into a family festival tomorrow -at the Pirst Congregational Church. At 11 am. the Rev. Howard Stone Anderson will preach on “Songs My Mother Taught Me.” Mildred Padgett will sing Dvorak’s setting of “Songs My Mother Taught Me,” Dale Hamilton will sing “Bless This House” and the Washington A Cap- pella Choir will lead in the worship ©f music and sing an anthem. Dr. Albert Peel of London will speak and musical and instrumental groups, including more than 60 musicians from Eastern High School, will provide the features of the final evening service of the church season until fall, at 8 p.m. Dr. Peel will speak on “Britain and France in a Time of War.” The Scrooby Club will meet at 6 pm. and the Tuxis Club at 6:30. The Fortnightly Club will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. and the Stand- ing Committee meets Monday at 8 pm. The May breakfast of the ‘Women's Society will be held at noon Tuesday. The guest speaker will be Clara W. McQuown on “Re- ligion in War-Torn Europe.” Dr. Howard W. Merriman, assist- ant professor of history at George ‘Washington University, will give his final current events lecture of the season at 6 p.m. Tuesday to the ‘Young Women’s Club. Special Music Feature At Petworth Methodist Mother's Day will be observed at | the Petworth Methodist Church at 11 am. with a sermon, “The Law of Thy Mother,” by Dr. Frank Steel- " quan, “Ave Maria” by Bach-Gounod will be presented as the prelude by Mr. Kavaljian, guest violinist, and Mrs. Cannon, the organist. Mr. Kavaljian will also present a violin solo, Dvorak's “Songs My Mother Taught Me.” The anthem “Mother,” by Pinsuti, will be given, with Mrs. Bricker as soloist. The women will have charge of the evening service, with Mrs. F. R. Young presiding. ‘The senior choir will sing “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” by Shelley. Williams’ “My Mother’s Bible” will be sung by Miss Lank, Mrs. Callbeck, Mr. Mears and Mr. Cannon. The guest speaker will be Mrs. A. Earl Kernahan, on “Prayer and a Chris- tian Mother.” On Monday at 7 p.m. the Bykota Class will hold its mother-daughter banquet at Brooks’ Tea House. Encyclicals on Social Justice to Be Observed The Washington Catholic Evi- dence Guild will hold its annual ob- servance of the papal encyclicals on social justice in Franklin Park to- morrow between 3 and 5 pm. with the Rev. Dr. Catholic University and spiritual director of the guild as speaker. The great encyclical of Leo XIII, “On the Condition of Labor,” was issued on May 15, 1891, and that of Pius XI; “Reconstructing the Social Order,” 40 years later on May 15, 1931, earlier document.
