Each of the several General Motors divisions, first to complete tabula- tions for the second 10-day period of April, reported gratifying in- creases over the preceding 10 days as well as gains ranging to more than 50 per cent over the corre- sponding period of a year ago. The trade generally regards the 10-day sales reports issued since the first of the year as bearing out ear- lier expectations of more profitable operations during 1940 than the industry’s average for the last decade. Oldsmobile division of General Motors reported today that its re- tail sales of new units for the second 10-day period of the current month numbered 6,927, compared with 6,313 in the preceding 10 days. Chevrolet previously reported sales of 35491, compared with 32,893 units; Buick, 9,667, compared with 8912, and Pontiac, 7,716, compared with 7,170, Ward's Automotive Reports esti- mated today that the motorcar in- dustry’s assembly plants would pro=-| duce 101,405 cars and trucks this| week.
