Louis. | pounds WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 193 PLANE ORDERS SET ALL-TIME RECOR Contracts Worth $71,723,- 589 Filled by U. S. Firms in Eight Months. Ey the Associated Press. NEW YORK, October 6—In the eight-month period ended September 1, the biggest from a sales standpoint in the history of the industry, Amer- ican airplane and motor manufac- turers filled orders worth $71,723,589, the Aeronautical Chamber of Com- merce of America announced, The figure included almost $30,000,- 000 for military airplanes and engines, slightly less than $10,000,000 in excess of sales in the same categories for the first eight months of 1936. The amounts were not detailed to show foreign and domestic deliveries. Sales on both commercial and mili- tary airplanes, engines and parts for the year 1936 up to September 1 amounted to $42,311,536. Leighton W. Rogers, president of the chamber, said 1,613 commercial airplanes were sold in the first eight months of this year, as against 1,007 of military aircraft dropped slightly, from 486 last year to 447 this year, in spite of the boost in dollar value. units, mounted from 1,100 to 1,321, and commercial engine sales jumped from 1,776 units to 2,962. The value of air- plane and engine “spares” or parts was 424,419 in the same period of 1936. Total estimated sales of aircraft, engines and spares for the entire year of 1937 were placed at $110,000,000, or 45 per cent above 1936, the indus- try’s record year to date for deliveries. “Every month this year, starting with January,” said Rogers, “has ex- ceeded the previous month in dollar volume of deliveries.” The announcement said the industry was not burdened with inventories of finished products, the volume of de- liveries in the eight months being slightly higher than production.
