Is desired by labor organizations and the country at large.” Although she said she did not know what specific changes would be sug- gested, Mrs. Norton indicated they probably would deal with the wage and hour standards. The House com- mittee adopted an amendment last week which would permit the pro- posed labor standards board to fix minmum wages as high as 70 cents an hour and a work-week as short as 35 hours. The Senate bill would restrict the board's authority to prohibit fixing of minimum wages higher than 40 cents an hour or a work week of less than 40 hours. Not Satisfactory to Her. “The bill which passed the Senate | = not entirely satisfactory to me,” Mrs. Norton said. “Its standards are not high enough and it gives too much power to & board of five men.” The Labor Committee chairman re- {terated the hope her committee could complete consideration of the legisla- tion in time to permit debate to be- gin in the House next week. She as- serted, however, she would rather not see any bill passed if it failed to func- tion because of hurried consideration. 70-Cent Amendment.
