The Federal Reserve Board ported last night a further increase in bank loans to commerce, industry and agriculture and continued liqui- aation of banks’ holdings of direct government obligations In its weekly condition statement for member banks in 101 cities, the board said commercial, industrial and agricultural loans, made with securi- ties as collateral, increased $7.000,000, to $579,000,000, durlng the week ended July 21 Similar loans nlh?rwi.w secured and unsecured climbed $12,000,000, to $3,- 847,000,000. Advances to commerce, industry and agriculture, regarded as a barometer of private credit demands, have been tending upward for almost a year. The board said real estate loans increased $1,000,000 during the week, to $1,162,000,000, and loans to banks rose $23,000,000, to $129,000,000. Reporting banks whittled holdings of direct Government securities $14,- 000,000, to $8.240,000,000, or $1,231,. 000,000 under the same week last year, These holdings have declined inter- mittently since March.
