OLD-AGE PAYMENTS EXPLAINED BY BOARD Application for Security Account Numbers Does Not Initiate Payments. | The Social Security Board today is- sued a statement to clear up a mis- taken impression that wage earners 65 years of age and over are eligible for old-age benefits because they now are being permitted to apply for so- cial security account numbers. The issuance of these account num- bers to this class of persons, it was up records for unemployment com- pensation programs. State unem- ployment compensation laws cover employes of all ages, whereas only wages earned before age 65 are counted toward old-age benefits. The use of these account numbers is intended as a move toward record | simplification. It will permit a worker | eligible both for unemployment com- | pensation and old-age benefits to be | registered under the same number for both.
