A correspondent of the Moscow newspaper, Izvestia, tells here of the activitics of the Soviet expedition at the North Pole, where an airplane and scientific base has been es- tablished. MOSCOW, June 1 (NANA)— Direct telephonic communication was established last night between the North Pole, where the Soviet govern- ment has established a scientific base, and Moscow, via Dickson Island. Al- though a blizzard was raging on Dick- son Island. the conversation instituted was as follows: Moscow: “This is Moscow, the radio | center of the great northern sea route. Tune in. We start counting, one, two, | three, four, eight, ten. Tune in.” | North Pole: “This is radio station RV of Vodopyanov's plane, U. S. S. R.- N-170. Tune in. We start counting, | one, two, three, five, ten.” Volume Reported Perfect. | Moscow: “North Pole! North Pole! | Moscow speaking. We hear you well ‘The volume is perfect, but not clear enough. We are again tuning in.” | North Pole: “Hello, Moscow! North | Pole speaking. Moscow, you are not ! hearing us well on account of the noise of the motor. We will take the micro- | phone outside and speak to you again | at 11:15 pm. Do you agree?” | Moscow: “Hello, North Pole! w»‘ hear you and agree to your proposal We will resume the conversation at | 1115 pm.
