In the Hunt Country BY NINA CARTER TABB. R. AND MRS. PATRICK HUR- LEY entertained several hundred people for luncheon on Saturday at Belmont, their lovely, historic place near Lees- burg, Va., during the recess hour of | the Loudoun Hunt Horse Show. The noted brick mansion looked very beau- tiful and homelike as we arrived, and Mrs. Hurley, as lovely as usual, greeted her guests in the spacious front hall, sending them on to the wide back porch, where Mr. Hurley stood. Tan- talizingly frosted mint juleps were dis- pensed from a bar on the porch. In the dining room was a large table, the length of the room, laden down with deliclous food. Other tables were arranged over the entire lower floor of this house of many rooms, and soon groups of attractive people from Vir- ginia and Washington were chatting, eating and enjoying themselves thoroughly. The younger crowd had been taken by Miss Patsy Hurley out on the back lawn, where, seated near brilliant pansy beds and borders of roses, they had & gay time as they ate luncheon. Many beautiful women were seen at the Hurley’s party, among them Mrs. John Bowler Hull of Washington. Mrs. Hugh Auchincloss, also of Wash- ington, was there with her young son, “Gene” Vidal, jr., and there were Mrs. E. B. White of Leesburg and Mrs. Sterling Larrabee of Warren- ton. As you wandered from room to room there were seen such interest- ing people as the Secretary of War and Mrs. Harry H. Woodring, the Peruvian Ambassador, Senor Dr. Don Manuel de Freyrey Santander; the Irish Minister, Michael MacWhite; the Minister of Denmark, Mr. Otto ‘Wadsted; Senator and Mrs. James Hamilton Lewis, Senator and Ms. Alben Barkley, Senator and Mrs. Arthur Vandenberg, Senator and Mrs. Willlam Gibbs McAdoo, the House minority leader and Mrs. Snell, Miss Edith Nourse Rogers, Miss Mabel Boardman, Mrs. Sydney Cloman and her daughter, Mrs. Pritchett; Mr. and Mrs. David Lawrence, Mr. and Mrs. Armistead Peters, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Leander Mec- Cormick-Goodhart of the British Em- bassy, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Jones, Capt. and Mrs. John H.
