The National Lumber Manufacturers’ Association reported today the lumber industry operated at 80 per cent of the 1929 production average during the week ended May 15. Shipments for that period were 75 per cent of the 1929 average. Reported new orders were the lowest since early in March and slightly below the cor- responding week in 1936. The association said 542 mills pro- duced 281,497,000 feet of hardwoods and softwoods combined during the week, shipped 256,862,000 feet and booked orders for 231,048,000 feet. Revised figures for the previous week were: 562 mills, production, 266,858, 000 feet; shipments, 247,545,000 feet, orders, 255,236,000 feet.
