By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 7.—American Paul Hahn, vice president, said at the annual meeting of stockholders today. He said had the advertising ex- penditure of last year been at the 1935 rate, the company would have earned its 85 dividend. The increase early this year in the price of cigarettes was just about sufficient to offset the increase in the cost of tobacco, Hahn said. Stockholders at many other corpo- ration annual meetings heard reports of increased earnings and improved business conditions, Revere Copper & Brass. C. Donald Dallas, president, told the annual meeting of Revere Copper & Brass, Inc., that net earnings for the first two months of the year were at the rate of $8.04 a share of common stock annually, after metal reserve and preferred dividend requirements. March business continued good, he said. Niles-Bement-Pond. Current business of Niles-Bement- Pond Co. was holding up well and was running ahead of that a year ago, Clayton R. Burt, president, reported. Babcock & Wilcox. At the session of Babcock & Wilcox Co. shareholders President A. G.Pratt said sales for the first three months of the year were up 50 per cent or more as compared with the first quar- ter of 1936. He said the company was operating close to full capacity. National Supply Co. Business of National Supply Co. has been increasing rapidly, John M. Wilson, president, asserted. He said cnnsxderatmn had been given various plans for clearing up arrearages on | the preferred stock, which on April 1 | amounted to $35 a share, Wabash Railroad. L. B. Manning, president of Avia- tion Corp., said that the directors at | the annual meeting would recom- mend to stockholders a vylan whereby the early payment of a dividend might be made possible through the sale of certain securities, Louisville & Nashville, An increase of 20.3 per cent in oper- ating revenue and 133 per cent in net | revenue for 1936 over 1935 was re- ported by J. NEW YORK, April 7—Copper fu- tures broke the full “ermissible daily limit of 1 cent a pound today shortly after the opening and in midafter- noon quotations were still 0.85 to 0.94 of a cent below the previous close. The decline followed a sharp reces- sion in non-ferrous metal prices in London, which was said to have been engendered, in part, by rumors of American monetary moves to curb boom prices. These rumors were later denied at Washington. The export price of copper also broke nearly a full cent a pound. The drop carried the foreign price under 15 cents a pound, compared with the recent peak of more than 17. In late trading sales were reported to have been made for foreign shipment at between 14.80 to 14.90 cents, com- pared with 15.75 yesterday. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 7.—Electric power production showed its first im- portant week-to-week decline thus far this year in the week ended April 3, but continued substantially ahead of output a year ago. Strikes in the industrialized Mlddler West and higher temperatures 1n‘ various parts of the country than are | normally experienced this early in| Spring were among other factors| working for a lowered output, power circles said. The Edison Eleciric Institute re- ported output for the United States totaled 2,148,959,000 kilowatt hours, a decline of 2.4 per cent from 2,200,- 143,000 the previous week. The in- crease over production of 1,867,093,000 kilowatt hours in the same period last year was 15.0 per cent. In the preced- ing week the increase over the 1936 | comparative was 18.1 per cent. The contraseasonal decline brought the Associated Press index of electric | power production, with 1929-30 taken | a5 100, down to 115.8 from 119.5 the | pre_cedmg week. A year ago the index, which is adjusted for seasonal and long-term trends, stood at 104.2. The latest figure of 115.8 was a new low for | 1937, while that for the immediately preceding period of 119.5 was a new | high for the year.
