Jorss Iron Works, Inc,, and the Charles Schneider Baking Co., died yesterday of a heart attack at the iron works office, in the 1200 block of Twenty-fourth street. Mr. Jorss long had been prominently identified with other business and financial institutions. He was vice president of the Crittall Manufacturing Co., makers of steel window frames, and a director of both the American Fire Insurance Co. and the Northern Liberty Building Association. ! Mr. Jorss was a Thirty-second De- gree Scottish Rite Mason and a mem- ber of the New Jerusalem Lodge, No. 9, F. A. A. M; the Elks, Rotary Club, the Columbia Country Club and the Early Birds' Breakfast Club. A native of Germany, he came to this country when 15 years old and lived for a while in Rockville, Md., before coming to Washington. A, retired, former manager of the Army and Navy Club and holder of the Dis- tinguished Service Medal for service in the World War. Interment was in | Arlington National Cemetery. Col. Curtis died Sunday in Walter Reed Hospital after an illness of sev- | eral months. He was 64. Honorary pallbearers at the Arling- ton burial today were Gen. Frank B. Watson, retired; Comdr. W. B. Rogers, U. 8. N, retired; Cols, Lewis L. Morey, J. P. Hains, retired; A. C. Olmstead, Roy H. Coles and Charles de F. Chand- ler, retired, and Maj. A. N. Lanier, retired. Col. Curtis, who, with his wife, Mrs. Corinne Van Kirk, lived at 1661 Cres- cent place, managed the club for 10 years after his retirement from the Army in 1922. He was retired for dis- ability in line of duty in 1920, but served two more years with the War Department. Enlisting for the Spanish-American War as a first lieutenant with the 44th Infantry in New York, Col. Curtis served through most of the campaign in Cuba. He later received a com- mission in the Regular Army and saw considerable action in the Philippine Insurrection. President Theodore | Roosevelt wrote him a special letter of | commendation for his good record in | the Philippines. | During the World War, Col. Curtis | served in the office of the chief signal | officer, receiving his honorary citation | for service there.
