Mrs. Laura Ray Walker, 56, of 1028 Connecticut avenue, mother of Henry L. Walker, Southern Railway solicitor, died yesterday of pneumonia in Peiping, China, according to word re- ceived here. Mrs. Walker had been in China about two months visiting her sister, Countess Katherine d'Anjou, whose husband is high commissioner of cus- toms at Peiping for the Chinese gov- ernment. For the past 15 years Mrs. Walker had made her home in Washington, and belonged to the Kentucky State Society here. Her son is a law pro- fessor at National University, in addi- tion to holding the position with the railroad. Mrs. Walker was the widow of H. Lee Walker of Dover, Del. Funeral services will be held in Peiping. The place of burial is to be decided later, it was announced. Miss Mary Stephens Doolittle died last night after a short illness at her home, 2153 California street. Miss Doolittle, a native of Washing- ton, was the daughter of the late Wil- liam H. Doolittle, prominent patent attorney and at one time assistant commissioner of patents. Her mother was the late Mrs. Eleanor L. Doolittle. Miss Doolittle was a life member of the Women’s City Club, belonged to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and was an alumna of the Mount Vernon Seminary. Surviving her are two sisters, Miss Jennie E. Doolittle and Miss Sara Ormsby Doolittle, both of this city, and a brother, William Gray Doolittle of Sewickley, Pa., who practices pal ent law in Pittsburgh. A. F. MAGRUDER PNEUMONIA VICTIM ‘Was Oldest Retired Officer of Navy Medical Corps and Native of D. C. Lieut. Comdr. Alexander Fitzhugh Magruder, 87, oldest retired officer of the Navy Medical Corps, both in age and from the date of his first service, died today of pneumonia at his home, 1325 Jefferson place. A native of this city, Dr. Magruder was graduated in 1871 from the old Columbian College Medical School, and was commissioned an assistant surgeon in the Navy the same year. He was promoted to passed assistant surgeon in 1874, and to surgeon in 1885. Retired for physical disability in November, 1896, he was called to duty during the Spanish-American | war and served at Marine headquarters | here. Dr. Magruder, who had lived here since his retirement, was a member of the Metropolitan Club. He is sur- vived by a son, Alexander R. Ma- gruder, retired legation counselor, who resides here; a daughter, Mrs. Kent Rowbottom, Long Beach, Calif., and a grandchild. Puneral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at his residence.
