F CURB DEPRESSED: BY PROFIT TAKING Utilities Resist and Some Climb to New Highs as Others Ease. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, January 8—Sharp recessions in some of the curb leaders today indicated active profit selling following yesterday's robust advance. Utilities stood up well in face of the offerings, and some climbed to new highs. Electric Bond & Share was buoyant on humors of a considerable rise in its liquidating value. It gained more than 1%z Newmont was down 3 in the late trading. Losses ranged from frac- tions to around a point in Montgom- ery Ward “A," Pittsburgh Plate Glass, American Cynamid “B” and Sherwin- Williams. NEW YORK, Januery 8.—The price of export copper moved up today to a new peak since June, 1930, at 12.15 cents a pound, compared with a top of 12.05 yesterday. NEW YORK, January 8.—Genera} Motors sales in December and for the entire year 1936 set new records in all classifications but one, and that established a peak since May, 1928, the company disclosed today. World sales of automobiles to dealers in December totaled 239,114 units, the largest number for any month on record, it was announced today. The figure compared with 191,720 units in November, 90,764 in g?;yher, and 185,698 in December, December sales to consumers in the United States aggregated 173,472 units, against 155,552 in November, and 122,198 in December a year ago. The latest total is a record since May, 1928, when 186,892 units were sold to United States consumers, December sales to dealers in the United States were placed at 197,065 units, the best month on record. This compares with 156,041 in November and 155010 in Décember last year. World sales to dealers for the entire year of 1936 also set a new record, totaling 2,037,690 units, against 1.- 715,688 in 1935 and 1,899,267 in 1929, the best previous year. Sales to consumers in the United States for 1936 were 1,720,213 units, which compares with 1,278,896 last year and 1,498,792 in 1929, Sales to dealers in the United States for the year aggregated 1,682, 594 units, against 1,370,934 n 1935 and 1635 060 in 1930, the best pre- vious year in this classification.
