CLOTHING WAGE RAISE DEMANDED Amalgamated Workers Cite Recovery and Increased Costs. By the Assoctated Press. NEW YORK, January 7.—The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, through Sidney Hillman, their general president, asked all men’s clothing manufacturers of the United States with whom the union has contracts yesterday for a 15 per cent pay boost beginning May 1. Hillman said the General Executive Board of the union decided at & re- ecent meeting “that the widespread re- covery in business and the substantial increase in the cost of living clearly warrant a general increase in the wage level of all Amalgamated mem- bers.” He suggested a joint conference of manufacturers and union leaders be held in New York, beginning Jan- uary 25, to discuss the proposal. He pointed out that “under col- Jective bargaining agreements in the elothing industry over a period of 20 years or more that either the manu- facturer or the union may request wage readjustments, whenever ° circum- stances justify such action.” He expressed the hope individual manufactures, with union contracts, 8s well as manufacturers’ associations, be' represented at the joint con- ference. Because of “the established relations of many years,” he predicted an agreement would be reached “accept- sble to both sides.” SECOND-OFFENSE SPEEDING. Benjamin J.
