Governments fell back moder- ately following several days of con- sistent advance. Losses ranged from 1-32d to 5-32ds of a point, excepting two or three Treasuries and Home Owners’ Loan Corp. 2Y%s and 2%s, which had slight gains. ‘There were many losses of a point or mpre in the corporate sector, affect- ing among others Allis Chalmers 4s, called for redemption today, Chesa- peage Corp. 5s, International Hydro Electric 6s, Studebaker 6s, and Frisco 4is. Cuban and South American groups reflected buying interest, while obli- gations of Poland, Japan, Italy and France were for sale at lower levels, TEXTILE FIRM ORDERS DIVIDEND, SALES SOAR BY the Associated Press. WEST POINT, Ga., November 12.— The West Point Manufacturing Co., a textile concern, declared a $6 dividend on its 72,000 shares of stock today, re- ported increased sales for the fourth consecutive year and the largest pro- duction in 1936 in the history of the | company. Stockholders at their annual meeting ‘were told by Carleton R. NEW YORK, November 13.—Al- though the ratio of gain over 1935 was narrowed, due to the expansion in building operations in Octobér last year, permit values last month were maintained at a relatively high level. A small seasonal gain was noted as compared with September, the actual increase of 2.2 per cent contrasting with a usually expected rise of about 2.5 per cent, while the increase regis- tered over October, 1935, amounted to 35.4 per cent. According to the latest summary, complled by Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., the volume of building permits during October at 215 cities amounted to $90,686,556, compared with 88,696,190 in September, and $66,965,705 for Oc- tober a year ago. New York City fell behind the rest of the country last month, the total reaching only $16,282,663, against $17,331,441 during September and $21,474,945 in October, 1935. This represented decreases of 6.1 and 24.2 per cent, respectively. Outside of New York (214 cities) building permits reached the sum of $74,403,893, the highest, with the ex- ception of last July, since 1931. Universal Pictures Co., Inc., motion picture producer, in a report for 39 weeks ended August 1, showed con- solidated net loss of $812474. Company stated that due to change in accounting policy regarding foreign subsidiaries 9 are included in above figure for only 30 weeks, 16 for 34 weeks, and share of revenue from British distributor for 37 weeks.
