THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, FRIDAY EMBER 6, 1936. EDWARD TOVISIT CANADA IN 1937 Premier Says British King Expressed Enthusiasm Over Plans. BY the Assoclated Press. FATHER POINT, Quebec, Novem- ber 6.—Canadians visioned King Ed- ward VIII today as the first British monarch to visit this Dominion and the United States. Prime Minister MacKenzie King, returnin from England, said the sov- ereign intended to visit Canada after his coronation next May. Officials recalled that President Roosevelt, speaking at Quebec last August, invited King Edward to visit the United States. Premier King said the 42-year-old monarch intended to visit his North American Dominion “as soon as pos- sib] fter his trip to India, imme- diately following the coronation as Emperor of India. He said Edward, owner of the “Ep” Ranch, in Alberta, looked forward to the trip with high enthusiasm. No British King ever has set foot on North America, although Edward visited this continent four times be- fore his accession to the throne, com- ing to the United States only in 1919 and 1924, His father, King George V., also visited Canada before he succeeded to the throne, Last July court circles hinted the monarch was eager to revisit his Al- berta ranch and thought it likely, in | the event he made such a trip, he| would stop with friends on Long Island and pay a courtesy call to President Roosevelt. New York welcomed Edward in 1919 with showers of ticker tape, cheers and miles of draped flags. It was on that trip that he bought the ranch in the foothills of the Ca- nadian Rockies, which was a magnet for his three subsequent visits to Canada. In 1924 Edward visited Pres- ident Coolidge at the White House, HEARING DATE IS SET ON RAIL APPLICATION | The Interstate Commerce Commis- | sion today set for a hearing on No- | vember 16 the application of the | Pennsylvania Railroad to acquire | trackage owned by the Massaponax | Band & Gravel Co. in Prince Georges | County, Md., to. establish a shorter | connection from the main line to the ac";”r‘:: rl‘lfxee ";:c\'tlved is slightly lessj 10 dmerent k‘nds o‘ than a mile and a half in length and | runs from a point near Arundel, and will be tied in with existing tracks of the Pennsylvania. ey VALUABLE Y A% «POINTED FOX +BLUE-DYED FOX | "BLACK FOX ¢KIT FOX *RED FOX ebly occasional showers tonight and | tomorrow; warmer tonight, lowest | temperature about 46 degrees; gentle | to moderate winds, mostly east.
