Today’s boost was the third put into effect this year by the domestic producers. = The current price puts copper at the highest level since 1930, aecording to trade sources, For some time metal dealers have been reluctant to sell at the 10-cent level, owing to the wide premium commanded by the price abroad. To- day the export. price reached a five« year high at around 10.75 cents a an extra of 35 cents a share and|P°"d regular semi-annual of 50 cents. ‘The dividends just declared are both payable December 15 to stock of rec- ord November 16. In 1930, 1931 and 1932 the com- pany paid $2 a share and in 1933 and 1934 $1.25 was paid. ‘Walter C. Teagle, president, said that with payment of the extra and regular dividends the company’s pen- alties under the undistributed profits tax would be reduced to a minimum, based on the present rate of earnings. Following declaration of the divi- dend directors of the company an- nounced a special contribution of approximately $4,500,000 to the em- ployes thrift plan. The contribution will be in addition to the company’s regular payment as its share under the plan which was put into effect January 1, 1936. In announcing the board'’s decision to recommend to the subsidiary com- panies this contribution, Teagle em- phasized it was neither profit sharing nor a wage adjustment. “Wages,” he sald, “are considered solely on their merits and are ne-\ gotiated betweeen employes and man- agement on the basis of the long [ established policy nf paying at least | the prevailing rate in each locality. When the thrift plan was proposed, | employes were told that under favor- | able conditions it was hoped there might be an additional allocation out of earnings.” ‘There are approximately 47,000 em- ployes of the company in the United | States who will be immediately affect- | ed and 70,000 in foreign countries. —— INVITATION ACCEPTED BY VIRGINIA BANKERS | BY the Associatea Press.
