FINANCIAL DEPOSITS MOUNT (TR AN'S FURTHER IN D.C. Gain of Between 10 and 13 Millions Seen Since Last Report. BY EDWARD C. STONE. Total deposits in Washington banks have mounted somewhere from $10,- 000,000 to $13,000,000 above the ag- gregate amount reported following the controller'’s bank call at the end of June this year, according to un- official estimates in the banking dis- trict. Total deposits on June 30 this year were $306,413,744.91. Present deposits in the banks are plrucularly interesting just now for two reasons. If the controller of the currency, J. F. T. O'Connor, adheres to the custom of recent years he will ssue a call for the condition of all Washington banks and all the na- tional banks in the United States late this month or very early in November. The other reason is that the New York banks have just re- ported substantial gains in aggregate deposits. Present indications are that de- posits on the next bank call will be ahead of the totals on both the June and March calls. Conditions might change a little between now and the | date of the call, but they are not | expected to change much. { The greatest recent increase has been in demand deposits, bankers | said today. At the same time in| many banks time deposits have mounted. The interest rates now be- ing paid give no great encourage- ment to any rapid building up of savings accounts, although the in- surance feature makes a strong ap- peal. The controller never gives any hint | regarding the date of a call. Three calls & year are required, but usually four are issued. The December call | s usually at the very end of the calendar year and the June call al- ways at the end of the Government's fiscal year. There has been more | variation in the date of the Fall con- dition request, it coming in Septem- | ber, in October, or even as late as November 1. Whenever the next call comes, bankers here expect an all-time total in the funds on deposit. Auditors’ Section to Meet. Arthur J. Linn, newly-elected first | wice president of the National Asso- eiation of Auditors and Controllers, will report on the San Francisco con- vention at the first meeting of the suditors’ section of the District Bank- i [id Prev. 474 5'«- 245 IS% 84 6115 2815 5% 58% 125% 66 5515 6413 1384 1371 52% 63 1051 13% 32% 82 5 9%, 41% 3 6Tl By Private Wire Direct to The Star. NEW YORK, October 6.—Climbing over profit taking without much diffi- culty, the stock market today pushed into peak territory for the recovery. Encouraging economic developments at home and reassurance over the ulti- mate effect of European monetary re- adjustments on world affairs helped to provide buying stimulus. The activity was pronounced in the morning and for a while the ticker tape was behind floor transactions, The pace slowed later on realizing and early gains were reduced in many instances. Near the final hour, how- ever, trading broadened and most of | the favorites got back to their top | levels of the day. Transfers approximated 2.300,000 shares, the largest turnover in sev- | eral months. ! By the Associated Press.
