Among leaders on the upward side were United Light & Power preferred, up 2% at 593;; Hudson Bay, up 1% at 263, and New Jersey Zinc, up 1% at T Higher by fractions to nearly a point were Electric Bond & Share, Excello Aircraft, Sunshine, American Cyanamid, Atlas, Crocker Wheeler and Cleveland Tractor. Pepperell lost 1% at 891;. Others slipping included Aluminum Co. of America, Humble Oil, Creole Petro- leum, Cor dand Imperial Oil. ‘The turnover was 204,000 shares, compared with 141,000 last Saturday. CHICAGO, September 19.—Reports of widespread deficiency of soil mois- ture over domestic wheat territory had a bullish influence on wheat prices today, late as well as early. An opposite factor, though, was talk that an enlarged Winter wheat acre- age will be seeded if possible. The outcome of negotiations for the pur- chase of nearly 20,000,000 bushels of wheat for Italy from Rumania was swaited with interest. NEW YORK, September 19.—Cot- ton made new low grcund for the present movement today under con- tinued hedging which was absorbed by trade buying on a scale-down. December sold off to 1190 and closed at that figure, with the general market showing net declines of 8 to 13 points. The opening was 3 to 5 points lower under overnight hedge selling from the South and scattered liquida- tion on reports of improving weather conditions in the belt. Brokers with Japanese connections were fairly good Buyers and there was a continued trade demand. Prices worked downward, however, closing at the low of the day.
