Analysis of Investments. The Treasury today made public an analysis of the assets and liabilities of corporations submitting balance sheets in 1933, in connection with their in- come tax returns. Investments were 31.3 per cent of total assets in 1933, exactly the same proportion as in 1932. But tax- exempt investments constituted 16.1 per cent of total investments in 1933, compared with 13.6 per cent in 1932. Cash in relation to total assets, like invest- ments, showed no change over the 1932 figure, remaining at 5.7 per cent. Balance sheets, as of December 31, 1933, or at the close of the fiscal year | nearest that date, were submitted by 388,564 corporations. Total assets of these corporaticas amounted to $268.- 206,000,000. The number of corpora- tions showing net income was 100,941. Their total assets amounted to| $90,128,000,000.. In 1932, balance | sheets were submitted by 392,021 cor- porations with total assets of $280,- 083,000,000. Of these corporations, 73,291, with total assets of $84,073,- 000,000, showed net income. Fewer Statements Filed. A decline in the filing of new se- eurity issues by power companies has accompanied the approach of the De- cember 1 deadline for registration of holding units under the utilities act, the Associated Press says. The lull follows the biggest rush of utility refunding on record, resulting in the registration of about $1,000,- 000,000 from that guarter alone this year. The corporate refinancing move- ment which started early in the year has been led by utilities. Fourteen power issues, ranging from $30,000,000 to $70,000,000, ran up a total of more than $600,000,000. In October, according to records of the Securities Commission, utility | issues released for sale totaled $163,- 000,000, about 40 per cent of the total. ‘The rush continued into this month, then subsided. Rapid Transit Net Higher. Washington Rapid Transit Co. showed an increase in net income for both the month of October and for the year to date, as compared with the same periods last year, ac- cording to the monthly report of the company filed with the Public Utili- ties Commission. Net income jumped from $1.346.90 in October 1934 to $3,947 in October 1935, a gain of $2,60010. Net income increased from $6,486.69 for the 1934 year to date, to $33,543.567 for the 1935 year to date, an increase of | $27,056.88. Operating revenues showed a cor- responding increase, from $36,283.96 in October 1934, to $41,071.84 in| October 1935; and from $336,065.35 ! in the 1934 year to date, to $375,131.97 for the 1935 year -fo date. income showed a gain - Philip A.
