STONE. “That $312,000,000 will be distributed to 7,000,000 Christmas club members by about 5,000 banks and other or- ganizations was the announcement made today by Herbert F. Rawll, founder and president of the Christ- mas Savings Club Corp., with head- quarters in New York. The estimated average amount for each member is $44.70. While most of the mutual savings banks and many | commercial banks throughout the | country have reported increases av-! eraging 17 per cent over the previous year, the entire distribution is smaller i than a year ago, due %o the fact some banking institutions, in curtailing pro- motional activities on account of ab- | normally low money rates, did not offer the Christmas club service to | customers during 1935. In the distribution of Christmas club funds this year, New York leads the other States with about $79.000,- 000, while the estimates for Pennsyl- vania are $87,500,000, for New Jersey, $31,100,000, and for Massachusetts, $23,260,000. New York City's metropolitan dis- trict will receive about $45,000.000. The Bank of America, N. T. & S. A. in California, will distribute $5,240,000. | The Bank of the Manhattan Co. in | New York has $2.850,000 for more than | 70,000 members enrolled at 68 offices | in Greater New York. The banks in Washington, D. C.. have $5.500.000 ready for distribution, the report states Washington Banks in List. The report also includes a list of the 40 banks having the largest ac- | cummulation for Christmas savings club members, including three banks in this city, American Security & Trust Co., Riggs National Bank and the Washington Loan & Trust Co. | Based upon a former direct-by-mail | questionnaire to a considerable num- | ber of individual members of the | Christmas Club, and applying that | analysis to the entire distributions for | this year, Mr. Rawll estimates that the total Christmas Club fund will be used approximately as follows: 11200 000 Christmas purcha ) K000 000 ) Permanent savings. Year-end commitments Taxer: = S Mortgage interest Insurance premiums Education. travel charity This December marks the twenty fifth consecutive December for the mailing of Christmas Club checks. As much as $5,000,000.000 has been accumulated through the Christmas | club method during the past 25 years. The average per-member distribution | during the entire period amounts to $39 per year, the report concludes. W. R. & E. Statement Filed. ‘The Securities and Exchange Com- | mission today announced the filing of | 19 additional registration statements | under the securities act, the total | amount involved being $202,403,465, | of which $153.240,985 represents new issues. The statement adds: “The total includes a $48.750,000 registration statement filed by the North American Co. covering 1,625.000 participating shares representing | 65,000 outstanding shares of smm par value common stock of the Wash- | ington Railway & Electric Co. to be | deposited under a deposit agreement. It also includes a $48.750.000 registra- tion filed by the Washington Railway | & Electric Co. to register the above | 65,000 outstanding shares of its com- mon stock.” { These statements are in addition | to the statement filed by the North | American Co. as reported by the com- I mission on November 1. Home Loans Reach New Peak. ‘The Federal Home Loan Bang Board reported today that an increase in the | past month of $5.000,000 to a total of | $95363616 in outstanding loans means the highest peak reached in this type ot home loans since the| system was established back in 1932.! During the week ending November 2 alone, the board said, loans amount- ing to more than $2,000,000 were ad- | vanced to home-financing institutions among the 3416 members. Since, establishment of the bank. loans total- | ing $179,565,015 have been made. Bank officials reasoned the rise re- | flected a greater need for mortgage credit, a growing shortage of residen- tial buildings, and a speeding up or construction to meet the need. John H. Fahey, chairman of the ‘board, plans to attend (he convention | of the United States Building and Loan League at Cincinnati on Friday. | Bonds Stronger on Exchange. ‘ Capital Traction 5s were stronger today on the Washington Stock Ex-| change, selling at 96% and 96'. ‘Washington Gas 5s were also in de- mand, three $1,000 sales taking place | at 105'z. Only one stock appeared on the bqard, five shares of Potomac | * Electric Power 6 per cent preferred | changing hands at 111. Lanahan & Co., Baltimore, Joint bidders, were awarded yesterday | an issue of $165.000 Prince Géorges County, Md., school bonds, 1937 to| 1965.
