‘ A—12 = CHILDREN’S BOOKS OF LONG AGO SHOWN First Exhibition of Early Juve- ‘niles Under Way at Library of Congress. First exhibition of early juveniies— children’s books—was under way in the Library of Congress today, accord- ing to Volta Parma, curator of the| Rare Book section. Books printed for children as long 880 as 1487 are shown in the Exhibi- tion Hall of the Rare Book Room. No book less than 100 years old is on display. Aesop's Fables, printed in Germany at the beginning of the 15th century, and highly illustrated, tops the list of rare books, numbered in the { hundreds. For several days experts in the Rare Book Room of the Library were busy assembling this collection—the first ever to be shown in Washing- ton—in chronological order. Old volumes of Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver'’s Travels, and first grade readers used in the early schools of America are shown, but emphasis is placed on American books. WAGE INCREASE | Six-Hour Day Advocated as-Best Way to Relieve Unem- ployment. By the Associated Press. BATTLE CREEK, Mich., November 8—W. K. Kellogg, the cereal manu- facturer, announced an average 12.5 per cent wage incréase for all man employes yesterday and declared that the 6-hour day, in which his company I ‘oneered, seems to be the best solu- tion to the unemployment problem. He said the six-hour day, inaugu- rated in the Kellogg plant five years ago to spread employment, had been adopted as a permanent policy. The new wage scale, Kellogg sald, is the highest in the company's history and provides & minimum of $27 for a 36- hour week. He predicted that the six-hour day, | if generally adopted, would increase | employment 20 per cent.
