NEW YORK, September 27—Re- porting a continued expansion in wool goods buying, the New York Wool Top Exchange in its weekly summary says a larpe and increasing number of mills | have sold up their output for the next | two to three months. The mills, it was asserted, are being forced into a position where they | must pare down orders and allot goods | to customers on the basis of initial | purchases last season. While this situation is particularly noticeable in men's wear markets, it is also spreading to the women's wear field, according to the service. BOSTON, September 27 (#)—The Commercial Bulletin will say tomor- row: “The market has slowed down this week appreciably. Prices are generally firm, however, and on me- dium fleeces a bit stronger. The manu- facturers have sold ahead for two to | three months and apparently have fairly well covered against their com- mitments in the raw material.” Washington Exchange SALES—AFTER CALL. | Capital Transit Co.—100 at | at 18 American Security & Trust Co.—10 at 20113, 5 at 20113, Bid and Asked Prices. By the Associated Press NEW YORK, September 27— Standard Gas & Electric Co. today filed a petition in the Wilmington, Del., Federal Court for reorganization under section 77B of the bankruptcy | act. It is one of the largest units in | the public utility holdings company group, with reported assets of more than $1,000,000,000. | In this status, however, it was something of a sub-holding concern | inasmuch as it is controlled by the Standard Power & Light Co., which is in turn controlled jointly by the United States Electric Power Co. and H. M. Byllesby & Co. The company dominates operating properties in 20 States. They supply | electric power, gas, steam heas, tele- phone, water or street railway serv- ice. It also owns a property in Mex- 1 ico. The company's map embraces | a large part of the Western half of | the United States. | Pinancing difficulties chiefly cen- tering on the more than $24.000,000 obligations due October 1 were made more acute for the companay by rea- | son of slow recovery in earnings from | the depression low levels. To conserve cash in preparation for | a proposed refunding operation to | deal with these bond issues the com- pany discontinued dividend payments | on its $7 and $6 prior preference | stocks around the end of last year. Early this week the company an- ! nounced it had sold to operating com- | panies in its system, without profit m‘ it, stock of the Byllesby Engineering | & Management Corp. all heretofore owned by Standard. The company ex- | plained that this sale was made in | keeping with the spirit of the utility | act of 1935. Efforts of the company to extend maturity of its October 1 obligations | were opposed by organized minority | security holders who protested against | various features of the plan. Quoted values of the company'si listed shares declined sharply on the Stock Exchange. The common drop- ped nearly $2 a share to a fraction under $3; the preferred yielded nearly $2.50 to slightly better than $3.50 a share; the 6 per cent preferred lost more than $3 to $10, and the 7 per | cent preferred declined more than $5 a share to around $10.25 Four bond issues of the company. listed on the curb exchange. dropped from $3.25 to $4.25 per $100 bond.
