P the Associated Press. NEW YORK, September 37— Higher temperatures in many parts of the country slackened the rate of merchandise movements to some ex- tent this week, but the general pro- gressive trend was not altered to any substantial degree, Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., said today. “While the gains for the week in retail distribution were not impres- sive, the widened margin from the 1934 level was noteworthy,” its survey sald. “Wholesale markets were busier, as recorders increased and advanced commitments expanded, due to de- clining stocks and lessened apprehen- sion of inventory depreciation as prices strengthened. The average of industrial operitions was steadier. “Retail sales expanded moderately, C., FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1935. with the peak for the season yet to be discerned. Consumers appear to be definitely in a buymng mod, judging from the extension of their interest from necessities to luxury items and higher-priced merchandise. “The increase for the week ranged from 2 to 10 per cent, while the esti- mated gain over the comparative 1934 total averaged 12 to 30 per cent, tak- ing the country as a whole. “As nelther retallers nor manufac- turers are stocked heavily, wholesale inarkets have been sensitively indica- tive of wideuing distribution, with pressure exerted to keep merchants supplied, in view of the difficulties en- % A—17 | countered in obtaining prompt de- liveries. “Instead of the slower pace that was creased during the week. “The rise in the output of special is yet to be checked, and many of | Fr! | the airplane factories have large un- | filled orders from the Government for both planes and motors,” the review declared.
